Be very wary of those cables. They wire USB 5v to the Axim's 5.4v pins, which are only supposed to be used when the AC adapter is connected (via adapter or cradle). This can cause your USB ports to fry if you're unlucky.
They should only be used to charge when the Axim is in the OFF state.
I cut a couple traces on the curcuit board of my Boxwave DirectSync cable so it would act exactly like the cradle when it's not plugged into the AC adapter. Before I did this, I received two fault messages in WinXP saying that a device had drawn too much current, and disabled two of my USB ports. Never again..
