I have one and it works really well with a strong signal. Weaker areas I've found it's not so much a matter of snowy picture it's no picture! I'd say you need to be able to see the transmission tower -- which can be a long way away, but line-of-sight nonetheless.

I was at a car rally in the country a few months back, miles from anywhere, and used it to keep up with cricket scores on the other side of the world while watching highlights and replays on my X50v. Can't do that with the car radio!

Remember... strong signal. Essential.

Doesn't work in Malvern where I live, Stan, but places I've tried it successfully using the standard telescopic aerial include Shepparton, Mooroolbark, Albert Park (i.e. the F1 circuit) and Mt Disappointment. Oh, and the top of the Rialto building -- I gathered more interested people looking at TV on my PDA than the spectacular view over Melbourne! (I felt like a bit of a nerd nevertheless)

I reckon with a small portable antenna, e.g. a set of rabbits ears from Dick Smith Electronics, the range and usability would be considerably enhanced. Haven't tried this myself, yet. The standard aerial is a bit of a joke, really.

Well, I am living in the city. So I guess the reception is good but than again all those tall building might worsen it.

By the way, when you have it on does the battery last long?

I just got my 50v and was looking for accessories that I can get for it till I come across this thread.

Thinking of getting a case, BT keyboard .....etc hahah

Thanks for the info Fude.

Unless you have a real need for it, I wouldn't spend money on one of these. There are other accessories that are more useful. What they are depends of course on your requirements. If you do a lot of driving or hiking/geocaching, then a BT GPS might be more useful, for example.

I would think that living in the city (I assume you mean Melbourne CBD, which is pretty cool!) would be crap reception on a CF tuner. Buildings do really nasty things to TV transmissions; that's why digital broadcasting is becoming so popular.

The TV didn't appear to impact much on my battery life, but I seldom have it on for long. In 3 or 4 minute bursts maybe a dozen times, is my typical viewing pattern. It has its own batteries which no doubt helps. Does displaying a moving image use all that much more power than a static one? I don't know, depends what processor load the TV tuner puts on the device I guess. But I didn't notice any excessive shortening of life between charges when using the TV.

All that's going on is decoding a MPEG-2 data stream, which is really no different from playing back a video on a memory card.
An 8VSB signal is pretty sensitive to signal fading. I have no idea why they didn't use a less sensitive scheme like OFDM.

Yup..I am living right smack in the city.
Well...think I might just get a Dell BT keyboard as it is the cheapest....

Buying leather case (sena) and screen protector (not too sure) got to get it from US.....it would be nice if there is a shop in Mel to see sample of it and have a feel..
