Sony Fontopia MDR Ex71SL Headphones
I recently purchased the above headphones and am very satisfied with the sound quality. What is interesting is the configuration of the cord from the ear plugs. It appears that the cord for the right plug from the center clip to the ear is longer than the left. It seemed very strange. I wonder why they were made that way? Perhaps, Sony felt that by doing so you could drop a Walkman or other sound device in your right shirt or suit pocket. Initially, I thought that the cords were off balance and I was about to pull the cord through the middle clip to balance the sides, when I realized, uh, uh, no do! What has been anyone's experience with these headphones? Obviously, you must use the extension cord if you want to place the Axim on a desk or in your pocket, otherwise the main cord set is too short.

Most are made that way now, you put one in one ear and then the other goes around your neck to the otherside.

Please note that this set of headphones as well as the 51's loose their left side sound (short side) after x-number of hours of use.

It is well known and Sony won't take them back.

I've got the 71s and they're still going strong.
They stay loose in my back pocket so it's not like they've been babied either.

The 51's and 71's all die after so many hours (unsure of timeline) check Amazon's customer reviews and there are dozens reporting the same issue. I go through about six a year.

6 a year??????
After the second I'd find a different brand. I have the 71's(for over 3 years now) and they still sound fine.

I also have 71's and they are well old now but still sound great!

they always sound better when they are older anyway! at 6 pairs a year they never get chance to get burnt in either. sure Ec3's are a great choice also.
