USB Sync/Charge Cables dont work with a "USB Extend Cable"

since my desktop PC is a good 2 meters away from where i actually work, i bought a "USB Extend Cable" (about US$7) so i can use my Boxwave-like USB Sync/Charge Cable (retractable) to ActiveSync...

only to find out that though the desktop detects the presence of the device (Plug 'n Play) - it wont sync... as seen from the Ax (or from the ActiveSync app in the desktop), they cannot connect/see each other

any reasons for this?

PS: I dont want to use the cradle because I would have to take the Ax out of the case (its a silicone case), and its quite a pain in the a**

You could be using a low-quality USB extension cable. Another solution to this would be to try using a powered USB hub.

I ran into a similiar situtation with a joystick not too long ago. A powered hub fixed my problem.

Also remember!

Unless you really need it, save a few bucks and just get an old USB 1.1 hub. The Axim isn't 2.0 anyways. That is, if you even have to purchase one!

The problem is not with the extension cable.
Is it the same without the extension?

See the sticky: warning on using sync/charge cable.

and no, the problem couldnt be with the sync/charge cable - because if i connect it directly to the desktop, everything is FINE...

This is why I suspected the extension cable. I've used plenty of those in the past -- and quality of the cable *DOES* make a huge difference.
