Re-installing Brando crystal clear -- any suggestions?
Well my X50v is getting replaced and I will be looking to transfer my weeks-old Brando screen protector to the new unit. Any suggestions on the best way to go about this?

I used the steamy bathroom method to put it on and it more or less worked, but I was taking it fresh off the protective films. I suspect I'll have a much larger dust problem this time around.

Also, anyone have any experience washing these things?

I use Writeshield and I will also be changing my 20 day old protector to put it on a new machine (thanks to that coupon). I am not looking forward to this. Although, I have changed succefully in the past on my x30, I havealso had it go wrong. I think I'll send my boyfriend in to do it. He keeps a much cooler head with these things and manages to get it done without screaming and yelling and carrying on like I have done in the past.

I would wash it first, then dry it with a hairdryer/lint free cloth. Then I'd put strips of scotch tape on the adhesive side to prevent getting new lint onto it. Then I'd reapply it, (preferably in a steamy room) gradually removing the strips of tape as I position each section.

I gave up!
I ordered the anti-glare and crystal Brando protectors in two separate orders, figuring I would try both and keep the best of the two. The anti-glare arrived first. Not knowing what I was doing, it got dirty. I spent quite a while washing and using masking tape in a steamy room to try to reinstall it. I was never satisfied and never got all the fibers off.

Then my crystal protector arrived. I installed it quickly and carefully. I am happy with it and prefer over the anti-glare so I have left it on.

The reality is that I'll just buy a new one when this one wears out. I am skeptical I'll ever get it clean enough if I have to reinstall. It's not worth the time to me to mess with that again.

That is what scares me. Perhaps I should just order now and save myself the headache. I tried Writeshield and like them alot. Maybe I'll try another brand this time just to change up some.

Welp, I tackled the swap tonight, and was pleasantly surprised. Using the steamy room technique and lifting the protector off the old unit with a sewing needle, I was able to transfer almost without incident. In fact it was easier than the original install.

My suggestions to would-be installers or sweappers: wash hands well and dry with microfiber towel (non-lint, car washing type), steamy bathroom technique, clean the screen very well with a microfiber cloth (eyeglass type cloth, I used a 3M), make sure you dust off every piece of dust, and apply. Try not to breathe directly on the work area (stirs up dust). Always hold the protector by the edges.
