Belkin F8D0005 USB Sync travel cable problem with X50v
This is my second Belkin F8D0008 Dell Axim X50 Sync from Dell.com for use with an x50v. I sent the first one back because the Axim screen flashed / flickered and it did not maintain an active sync connection with a laptop. The second one is no better.

LINK TO BELKIN PRODUCT HERE: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...ct_Id=1 91843

It is the accessory with the usb cord that connects directly with the Axim and a laptop and a car cigarette adapter with a female USB adapter to charge the Axim in the car using the same cord.

It seems to charge the Axim fine when attached to the laptop (orange power light on Axim comes on) but it does not maintain a sync connection. I have tried different USB ports on the laptop without success. I sent the first one back to Dell because I thought it was defective. This one does the same thing.

The actual cigarette adapter with the USB input is rated for 5.4v at 2amps and works fine for charging and using the device in the car. It is the sync cable that does not do what it is supposed to do.

Is this related to the increased power requirements of the X50v compared with the X50?

Sounds like your battery is depleted beyond the laptops capability to recharge. Try charging it fully with the cig lighter adapter, or with it turned off and the laptop....then see if it will maintain connection.

Thanks...this worked fine. It seems the battery absolutely needs to be nearly fully charged before you can even hope to sustain an ActiveSync connection. I realize that this has to do with the power requirements of the X50v but Dell and/or Belkin should make this huge limitation clear before you plunk down money for the accessory.

I'm having the same issue with my brand new X51v. Seems that Belkin and Dell are just ignoring the issue (given the problem still exists with the new model).

I was told by Dell that I had to get a replacement from Belkin; Belkin will replace but I have to pay return shipping on the part that was defenctive right out of Dell's box! Now that I see other's are having the same issue... I'm dreading getting the cable and seeing it still not work. I found some posts on other sites talking about the USB 2.0 power variance issue and even a hack that involves soldering to get the cable to both sync and charge.

Anyone interested in a class action suit?

Yes, Dell 2-way and 3-way cables are Belkin. Got my second cable and it connects better, no flicker so far, but still will not charge the Axim x51v off a USB port, only from the car adapter.

I just went through the same problem. I was suspecting the battery, because it was down at 40% and dropping. I did a hard reset, reloaded and it works fine now, although the battery was fully charged.

I just got the Belkin cable. The Axim has two power inputs: one low-power for trickle charging when the Axim is off, the other high-power for charging and running when the Axim is on. Belkin wired their cable so that the power from the USB goes to the high-power input.

However, your USB port probably doesn't supply enough power and shuts down when the Axim tried to draw more than it should.

It's not the Axim's fault. Belkin should not have wired the cable that way. The reason they did is so their wall and car chargers (which supply high-power on the same pins as your USB port) will work.

Did anyone ever come up with a solution to this issue? I replaced a Belkin 3-1 travel kit believing the cable was defective. With the new cable, I have the same problem:

At work, the Belkin cable is able to sync the Axim X51v a few times but then the unit will no longer connect and I see a lot of screen flicker. This happens with the battery still over 90% charged. At home, the cable manages to connect the Axim and it syncs but the screen flickers.

With the Dell cradle (without the AC adapter connected), the Axim connects and syncs just fine at work and home.

Any solutions or workarounds?

I have the same issue as well.

x51v - when plugged in via USB - it doesn't maintain a steady connection. The PDA continues to alternate because external and battery power (causing the flashing). Also, activesync is very flaky in maintaining its connection as well.

Replaced my Cord.
I guess that belkin has a problem with quality control. I returned mine and got a new one, the new one has never had a problem.

I called up Dell today, the x51v is not compatible with the (belkin) 3-1 travel kit,
even though it is listed on the Accessories and Customize webpage of the x51v.

I think I remember that the x51v requires more powerthan the x50v. I've been curious, because Dell continues to advertise the belkin 3n1 travel unit.

I've noticed that as long as the battery is at about 85% or above it will charge and sync. If you turn it off and the reconnect and its had a chance to discharge a bit and it first registers in the 60s, it will not charge.

Since mine is a replacement x51v for x50v, I'm not sure what I can do. I bought the travel charger at the same time I bought the x50v.
