TV show on CF card?
Hi all....Would it be possible for a 128mb compact flash card to store a 1 hour long tv show? My Axim X50 is due from Dell and I didn't want to buy another card if the one I have will do. Thanks........

I'm not sure I would agree with darkdestroyer......at least not the extremely, extremely part. Quality will surely not be optimal, but you may not be that far off of the numbers used by others here. I encoded many of the Babylon 5 DVDs for play on my Axim and I've found that about 130-150M (per 44 min episode) is what works best for me, taking into account space limitations, quality, etc. Obviously, 500M would be nicer, but that's a lot of storage space being used.

When you say a 1 hour TV program are you referring to an episode from a DVD? If so, it is probably not a full hour.........more like 43-45min. You might also save space by skipping the final credits. What software are you using to shrink the video? What would you use to play it on your Axim? TCPMP is the winner around these parts!

Bottome Line: I would say that you might be able, possibly with some fiddling with your conversion software, to get something that is watchable. Won't be HD, but hey, it's a handheld!

I don't know too much about that process, so can't be of much specific help there. Should be able to cut out commercials and credits though??

It all depends on the format on which your "TV Tuner software" stores the files in, eg. AVI, WMV, MPG, etc. You maybe able to adjust the quality on the recording software so that the end result would be smaller files. For example, decrease the sound quality. You probably dont need 128kb/s of sound for TV shows. Also, maybe changing the size of the video from 640x480 to 320x240. These measures will at least reduce the file size. If all else fails you can try to convert TV shows with PockeDivxEncoder to DivX format. The program allows you to do all the changes I've mentioned.

There are some great threads on all this conversion/ripping/encoding/etc on this site. Just go to multimedia in forums.

Good Luck

Thanks all! I'll try to shrink down the file.
