Seidio g2500 gps holder and heat issues

I own a g2500 from seidioonline.com and when using it with my axim x50v afer about 20 minutes in the california air around 11 to 2 pm pst the x50v seems to heat up so bad that the unit freezes and when you pull it out of the g2500 unit it almost burns your hand when you touch the back.

To fix it you have to pull the battery and cool it down via the air conditioning or something that cools it down quick to use it again.

I own a x50v using tom tom software and phaors sdio gps. Not sure why it heats up this much?

Anyone have similar problems or know what is going on. I called dell and they are replaing the unit. But now that I think of it... it sounds like it is the sdio unit then it is my hand held. But if anyone else has had the same problem I am curious to hear about it, and what the solution was.

you arent leaving it in direct sunlight are you? The axim was NOT meant for temperatures that hot, especially sitting in a car with the windows up when it's 90+degrees and the sun shining down on it.

My radar detector IS designed for that, and it gets too hot to touch while hanging in my windshield.

From http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/sp...1431688&stext=

Max Operating Temperature
104 F

You could try switching the processor to Power-Saving, this should reduce the heat generated within the x50v.

You could also try an unpowered mount combined with a external charger to move the heat generated by the charger away from the x50v, also a home built aluminium foil & cardboard sun shield may help if you think the suns rays are hitting the x50v (eg make a three sided box that sits around the mount with aluminium foil stuck on the outside of the box)

oh yuck... i dont want to hear that.... Hopefully you are "accidentally" leaving your Axim in the car in the Seidio 2500.... hehe.. 104 degrees is hard to get to if you come from an air conditioned building and get the AC running in your car ASAP, I would think.

I just purchased my 2500 and it is on the way with my new Haicom HI-305III CF GPS. I'll test it when I get it and let you know if I am experiencing the same things. I'm in 90+ degree weather here in Louisville, KY and the heat can get pretty bad in my car too but hopefully not so much to get the device to 104 degrees before the AC works well enough to cool the car.

just take the handheld with you when you go somewhere.... just think you are standing in a line and playing a game instead of being bored....
