X50V - VGA Cable - presentations
Hi All,

I do a lot of presentations via my laptop and am excite to have learnt that the X50V with a VGA cable could work!

My quiry is - When presenting you move around quite a bit...

1) How long is the cable?
2) Is there a way to be wireless?

Who uses their X50V with a projector for presentations. How does it work? I think it might be clumsey?

Looking for any feedback... and sorry if this is a dup post. I searched and after reading several posts felt this was easier.

If you have a link or know of a place on the web please point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Jay

The actual cable/connect itself is quite short:

You'll have also buy a VGA cable for it to work.

We can use our ordinary VGA cable right that we got with our monitor right? Or laptop?

Well, my Dell projector has a female end, and so does the output from the Axim..but I also have a male-to-male that goes between. I'm not sure if the video cable on a computer monitor is male or female...and I'm not about to go unplugging everything to check it out.

Just one note...there is a non-Dell option for the VGA-out cable, and that's the way you want to go. Don't spend the big $$ on the Dell cable...and I personally like Conduits' Power Point software better than what came with the Dell package. Some others will disagree with me, but I like the ability to edit presentations on the fly. As another note, Windows Mobile 5.0 will have a Microsoft version of Powerpoint Mobile on it, so again, buying the Dell presentation package may not be the best idea. I'll go see if I can find the link for that secondary source for this cable...

You can use the cable from the monitor to plug into the short adaptor.
I personally will wait to do alot of presentations till WM05 comes out with powerpoint, because right now, the software (clearview suite or whatever it's called) can only read existing files, meaning it is only a viewer.
There are 3rd party apps that can create/edit though, also there are other hardware packages that let you do it wirelessly.

I have the Margi SD presenter-to-go. It's a little more pricey but at the time it was on sale when I purchased my x50V. It actually has an infra-red remote that lets you advance the slides. You can actually use the same card for both PocketPC and PalmOS. I just downloaded the palm version and for some reason, the program actually runs faster on the Palm T3 than the x50V. There seems to be a very long lag time when you advance the slide on the x50V. But this may solve your problem if you need to move around alot.

oops, just went to their web site and they have discontinued the product.

Re: X50V - VGA Cable - presentations
I use the x50v and the VGA cable for presentations. The VGA cable is short but most projector systems have long cables. Those tend to be stiff, though. I am considering getting my own, thin, flexible VGA extension cable.

OTOH I find that I rarely hold the x50v during presentations. The idea of reading Speaker Notes on the PDA while showing slides on the external projector is attractive. It just does not work for me, though. Either I know what I want to convey to my audience without reading it off a screen or I am in trouble anyway. Speaker Notes do not help, they distract me. As a remote control I use a ThinkOutside Bluetooth keyboard to advance animations/slides. I should probably get a BT mouse instead. It would be a lot less geeky and might even be a practicable solution to on-screen drawing. Then the thin, flexible VGA extension cable would not be needed.

Now, does anyone know of a BT mouse for the x50v - compatible with the TO keyboard, Nyditot, ClearVue - which has a built-in laser pointer? That would be really slick.

ANYBODY????

I'm really liking the development of this thread! More ideas welcome! I just picked up the Hitachi 6GB microdrive from Dell. It's got a $30 rebate.. I can hold all my presentations on it and a movie/tunes... My clients are floored when I show it off.. I just need to have this video solution complete and that would rock! I like the BT mouse/pointer or a BT device that has a pointer and buttons... to control PPT.

I apologise to readers who have read this message on another thread but I though it might be more relevant here. I just bought a VGA out cable to allow me to use my axim for powerpoint presentations at work but it won't work with the projector they have. The video out is fine when I connect to a standard CRT monitor, but with the projector I get a "frequency is out of range error". I've tried in mirror mode, with Nyditot, with Clearvue with the enhanced GAPI drivers, with the A05 bios and with all available resolutions. None of this makes any difference. The projector is a Sony SVGA VPL-CS7 and the specifications suggest that it should be able to handle all the resolutions and frequencies that the axim can possibly throw at it.

I'm about to email Sony to see if they have any suggestions. In the meantime, perhaps people might like to list the projectors that they have had success with?

hp projector worked...
I thought I had read somewhere about a bt option for wireless presentation.
I haven't tried it out yet, but one user reported success with T.O. bt mouse and Nyditot in safe mode.

And the Dell 2300 projector also works well with the Axim.

you can also use the www.Boxwave.com cable

one interesting thing is that the Boxwave cable has a male end so it is not as easy to connect to monitors that only have the male connector on a cable....most projectors have the female plug though (like on your computer) so it works fine with projectors and monitors that you can unplug the male to male cable from....
