Anyone need any help setting up their ThinkOutside Bluetooth Keyboard or Mouse?

Hi,

I've noticed that there are quite a few users out there that are confused and having problems setting up their keyboard and /or mouse.

I happen to own both and have had success with them and just thought that I would like to help anyone out there that is having problems/have a question.

Hi,

I read your offer of help with setting up Think Outside keyboard/mouse. I am a newbie with Pocket PC, after having used Palm OS devices for years. I am now a confirmed PPC fan.

I just bought a TO keyboard and was having extreme difficulties getting it to work with my X50v. I read with great interest your threads on the subject. I am not at all familiar or knowledgeable about Bluetooth as my Axim is the first BT enabled device that I own.

While I am sorry to say that during my troubles, a frantic email to Think Outside several days ago has yet to be responded to. That said I tried, I think, everything that was recommended w/o success until I took the plunge and started all over by hard resetting my Axim. This solved all my problems and I have been able to connect my keyboard. It is terrific. I still don't know about "paired devices", but my keyboard works. I do, however have to "connect" it before it works, but all is pretty good.

So, the purpose of this email is to ask you what you think of the TO BT mouse. Do you like it and would you recommend it? After enjoying the freedom of the keyboard, I started getting frustrated at having to use the stylus to enter certain responses. Could you tell me if the mouse eliminates the need for the stylus?

Thanks for your offer of help. Aximsite is the most useful, helpful and friendly forum I have ever had the pleasure of using. This is one of the reasons for my total satisfaction with the Axim.

Agreed :approve: aximsite is the best!

About the Think Outside bt mouse, I believe that if you have the latest drivers(from T.O.(thinkoutside))/rom (software updates from Dell)
Then setup is really easy, I had troubles with it when using older drivers, but not with the new ones.
The mouse does replace the stylus and makes using the keyboard even more pleasureable. A warning from T.O. they said that when using both of their bt devices at the same time it would disable the battery saving option. I don't/haven't noticed any difference, but haven't thoroughly tested it.
Also, the mouse is compatible with se_vga, I haven't used the other similar program which I can't seem to remember it's name, but I assume that it would be. It also is compatible with Nyditot (Now Why Didn't I Think Of That) Virtual Display, which allows you to use the X50v's VGA out function to drive an external monitor @ a resolution up to 1280x1024 and it also does the functions of se_vga plus lot's more (it costs something but I don't remember how much). I haven't had a chace yet to see if it works with the t.o. bt mouse in external monitor mode which would allow you to use it as a desktop with keyboard and mouse, but if it isn't compatible, you could just use it's touchpad feature which lets you use the axim screen as a touchpad.

Final conclusion:
I think that the T.O. bt mouse is very good at allowing the Axim to become a laptop/desktop replacement (except for some software limitations) and it compliments the keyboard quite nicely. :approve:
The only complaints I might have (when I was using older drivers) is that when I was using it with my laptop, and then switched it to my axim, I'd have to re-pair it to my device, which the drivers would have problems re-connecting. I'm not sure if they've been fixed, but I assume they would've, but I could check if you want :approve:
Edit: Here is a link to a review.

Hi, thanks in advance for offering help with this. My problem is mainly that I have to restart the BT connection after only a few minutes of inactivity every time, very frustrating.

Here it's almost midnight. :) (zzz) sorry for taking so long to reply, but I'll try to get back with you tomorrow. :approve:

So the keyboard doesn't re-connect, and the only way to get it to work is to re-start bt?

J-D-Cronin,

I just received a Dell Executive Keyboard BT (TO brand) and I'm going to receive a TO bluetooth mouse soon. I've got the latest drivers for both, but I was wondering if there are any firmware updates I should know about for either?

Can you link them for me? Thanks!

The Think Outside drivers are for both the mouse and keyboard, so going to www.thinkoutside.com on your axim will give you the latest driver (which you said you already have) and when you connect your keyboard, it might say something about needing to upgrade the firmware on it, just click ok, and a few seconds later it will have upgraded it, I have never gotten that for the mouse.

Hope that helps :approve:
Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions.

The firmware is part of the drivers for the keyboard and the mouse. If it doesn't say you need to upgrade, you don't. I don't think there have been any firmware upgrades for quite a few months.

Thanks far the info. I have been having problems for months. Downloaded the mew CAB driver and everything works great. It said I needed to disable some type of HID or HIB program to install? Please don't get me wrong by saying this, but you can only use the mouse "or" the keyboard Not both at the same time. "RIGHT" or am I missing something? Thanks again! As Always this Web site is the best. :)

The drivers off of Think Outside's website, are for both the keyboard, and the mouse, and they can be used at the same time.
If you could give a list of programs that might be related to your error message, that would be helpfull. Do you have any other bluetooth software? Please post the exact error message, that would be helpfull, also, please post your ROM/Axim model number as well. Thanks! :approve:
