USB Wireless FM Transmitter

I didn't know where to really post this, but I would like to use a usb wireless FM transmitter with my laptop or desktop that is of good quality to stream MP3s to close by stereo's at a reasonable distance. Anyone know of some good ones? I might even get a USB adapter for my Axim X50v for this idea so I don't have to burn out my headphone socket due to bugs.

Please advise...

That sounds very complicated.. why not use a stereo-to-stereo connector instead? If you're streaming it to a stereo system, you'll definitely notice much better quality.

If your insistent upon using a wireless FM transmitter, why does it have to be USB?

The other option is to get a cassette adapter, which works better since you are not relying on FM transmission. If cassette adapters are not an option, take a look at the transmitters by iRock and Belkin; many people seem to be happy with them. Note, however, that how well they work will depend on the availability of the FM signal. You may have difficulties if you live in a large city with many FM stations.

I am looking to stream from my desktop located elsewhere to anywhere in the house. USB is self powered and can also connect to laptops, and the axim with an adapter. Cassetts are no longer an option, direct input needs wires, and kids like to play with them when they are everywhere. Yes, I sacrafice quality, but a usb wireless adapter seems to be the best alternative. Might I mention the axim has a crappy 3.5mm port that seems to break all the time (according to reports on this forum). I have read about lineX and range is important, I want to seek out everything so I don't waste limited money.

Where did I plant that dang money tree again? ...oh well...

Ok, I'm not sure I understand you completely. Do you want to stream music from your desktop/laptop to your Axim? If so, you can just set something up using Windows Media Encoder and access the music via wifi.

EDIT: Ok, I just reread your initial post. You want to stream music from your desktop/laptop to your stereos right? The FM transmitter would be the easiest way. And how exactly would you want to use your Axim?

Purpose:
To stream music from desktop to any stereo.
To stream music from Laptop to any stereo.
To stream music from Axim X50v to any stereo.

Requirements:
Wireless
FM Modulator
USB

Known product:
LineX

Need:
More information about alternate products
Range of atleast 100Ft or 35 Meters
USB will power the unit and transfer the information to the source.

I hope this clear things up. I don't like ipods, I love Mp3s, and simply want to be anywhere around my house listening to music streaming from my puter to any stereo I choose, even the vehical.

Edit: Axim X50v would need an adapter for a usb port (this should answer an earlier question).

Is this the LineX you're talking about? If so, its specs say only a range of 30 feet, which would not meet your requirements. The other issue would be getting USB on your Axim. As you are already aware, you will need to get a CF USB host card; unfortunately, those who have tried these cards have not reported good results. I still think the best way for you to get music from your PCs to your stereo would be to use a simple FM transmitter that plugs into the audio out of your computers. Hopefully someone else will have a better idea.

I will keep an open mind if you have any suggestions on those as I may still be interested, but I hate messing with line outs on computers. But would love to review ideas.

However I still am looking for a quality competitor of lineX in my initial research.
