x50 headphone jack is also microphone in?
I am looking for a earphone/microphone combo (like you'd use for a normal cell phone) for use with my X50v. I don't need stereo.

The cell phone ones have plugs that are too small. Does anyone make one that is compatible with the X50 plug, or am I best going to radioshack to get a adapter?

thanks

You would be best to go to Radioshack and get the adapter and use a cell phone headset. I bought the adapter for $4, whereas a bluetooth headset will be at least $40.

x50 headphone jack is also microphone in?
So I saw this product here:

http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductD...-IP6335M35FMIC

It seems like I can plug an external microphone into the x50?
I would actually like to do this because I have tried recording
school lectures in a large auditorim and the sound comes out
totally washed out. Does anyone know I can plug in a nice external
microphone with this device? If anyone has tried it, what
kind of microphone would be appropriate for recording lectures in
an auditorium of like hundreds??

Welcome to Aximsite!

Yes, this adapter will allow you to plug in your own mic. There is a review of this adapter here:

Can I plug my own microphone into it without using the adapter? How does this technology work? Why would an output port also allow input? How come I can't find any information regarding this product on Dell's site if it is supported by the x50.

No, you can't just plug in your mic in; you need to use the adapter. I am not an expert, but the jack contains 3 rings - one for mic, and two for stereo output.

New products are developed all the time; you can't possibly expect Dell to keep up with everything that is compatible with their products.

if that adapter works then ya just try puttin a mic directly into the x50 and if it dont work the worst it would do is damage the mic

As a matter of fact....any headphone can also be used as a microphone. Yes folks you heard right!

On iPod Linux (for 3G iPods) there is a program called audio in or line in record. By using any old headphones, i was able to record and then play back what i had recorded using my REGULAR HEADPHONES. Apparently with the right software, any device is able to do this.

Yes, I've heard this too! But the fact that one needs to use the adapter for an external mic is still true.

The original response was right. I don't know about pins on an ipod but the phone jack on an X50v is tip-ring-ring-sleeve. An extrnal mic will only work if it connects to the last ring and sleeve. The tip and first ring (with sleeve for ground) is the stereo out and will not accept input from a mic. When you plub in a standard stereo trs plug, the external mic function is disabled. Hence the adaptor. You either need it or you need to wire your own trrs plug.

The adaptor works. Your advice will certainly not, though it will likely do no damage to the mic.

Cool, sucks you have to buy an adapter but oh well, this'll be good for recording. Now any ideas on an MP3 Recording Program for the Axim that'll accept the feed from the external mic?
