Car charger that actually works?
Having read the threads around this forum regarding car chargers for the Axim X50v there seem to be problems finding a car charger providing 2A @ 5V which seems to be the consensus of what is needed. In my car I am running TomTom Navigator 5 which causes the CPU to run at max all the time. I therefore need all the "juice" I can get from the charger. I already have a dedicated car charger for the Axim, but it fails to charge when the battery is below around 85%. I am left with a question:

Can anyone recommend a car charger that ACTUALLY works (regardless of battery status) for the X50v?
Specifications (!) and place to purchase would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

I got the the combo car, 120v and sync - travel charger from Dell when I ordered my Ax. I think the manufacture is Berklin (sp?). It works great in the truck when I am playing MP3's.

Same here, the one from Dell is great if you're looking for a power adapter with a USB-end.

Belkin would be the manufacturer. You can get a good deal on one of their chargers on ebay.

This one was reported by someone else as working successfully, but YMMV applies, of course.

I know this has been debated before, but the conclusion from these debates are that one charger works for some people but not for others. I HAVE done some research on this forum, that is why I am aware of the required specs for the charger. I have however not yet seen any charger meeting these specs. What I am looking for is a charger WITH the defined specifications. Having investigated further "all" PSP chargers are in the range 850-1000 mA, which obviously is not enough.

I am simply asking: Do you know of any charger where the specs meet the requirements and the specs are publicly available? I am not going to continue buying car chargers with the hope that someday I may be lucky enough to get one that actually works....

Nonsense. The one JakeRich posted works perfectly. I own one.

Please define your definition of "works perfectly".

Upon further research on that Pelican Car Charger, the specs say 5v @ 500ma...That sounds like the charger I already have, which ONLY charges my X50v when it's OFF.

I believe halvard is asking for a charger that will charge the X50v WHILE it is in FULL USE (something that people have been saying requires power output from the charger in the neighborhood of 2 full amps)

I bought the Pelcin before a big trip, used it running the axim for a good solid 6 hours, never drained the battery. Was running it along with the bluetooth to my gps unit and didn't drain the battery down at all, was at full the whole time. Might not keep up running a microdrive but in my case it worked out well and the price was right.

I realize that, chief.

My Pelican Car Charger is stamped with "5v 2A". My screen never flickers. It charges the battery to full while in use -- watching movies with a microdrive.
Mine looks exectly like the one pictured on the Walmart site.

It seems there are two Pelican PSP car chargers. One is rated at 2A, and the other isn't. The one on the Walmart site looks like the one I have (same packaging and everything). There is another one that looks quite different, and I'm guessing that's the one that does not work.

Well, bud, had you mentioned your Pelican was 5v 2A, that would've cleared everything up without having to go further.

...Anyhow, thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be needing to visit Walmart soon.

I have a 350W inverter/converter sitting in my car for various reasons, mainly to charge my phone/pda/laptop, whatever :-) 230v 24x7 :-)

use a spare x50v cradle mounted in the car with 230vcharger plugged into inverter.

can get one from any super cheap car shop, or electronics shop or strathfeild for less than $30.

guaranteed to charge your Ax while being on.
