My Attempt To Do The Impossible...Please Help
I am completely dissappointed! I just purchased the Targus' universal infrared fold out keyboard for my X50v. (It can be seen here.)

This keyboard is absolutely terrible! It has a flimsy consruction, there are three different seperations in the space bar, and the backspace key is literally no larger than a quarter-inch squared.

Now, sorry about my whining, back to my question...About five years ago, I used my handspring visor everyday to type notes in high school with this fantastic keyboard (the original thinkoutside stowaway keyboard, marketed by targus). The keys were full-sized and everything about it was really ideal. (I actually loved this keyboard so much that I would type documents with it on my PDA at home instead of using a traditional keyboard.)

I have looked all over the internet and cannot find anything like it for my X50V.

Now, to really pick your brains...I still have my old stowaway keyboard. Is there ANY possible way, at all to somehow "convert" my old keyboard to work with my X50? (I have a moderate to extensive electrical engineering background and would be willing to solder, program/reprogram IC's, and even write drivers if I had to.)

Sorry for such a lengthy post. I've got my fingers crossed that someone might possibly be able to help.

Thank You

Good luck, sounds like you have more skills than me to find a solution.

Wonderful.
We have the pinouts for the x50 and they have the serial lines all mapped out. All you need to be able to do is attach the keyboard (serial) to that serial port... I dont know if you need a RS232 but I think its device to device and doesnt need that voltage conversion... though those GPS things seem to need it.
I think the OS has some native support for HID so you might be able to build off of that.

How different are the connector pins in your old keyboard? (diff between Visor and X50v)
Or you could hook up an IR or BT solution by combining the physical visor cable with a bluetooth module.

Sounds fantastic, where are these pinouts that you spoke of?

Have you taken a look at the Think Outside BT keyboard? It's a lovely KB to type on, for my purposes.

I'm sure he knows about it, but he really likes his old keyboard and wants to keep using it.
