Palmone Universal Wireless Keyboard and WM5
Hi,
Like everyone else, I'm waiting for the WM5 upgrade for my x50v, and I'm wondering if the Palmone Universal Wireless Keyboard I've been using will keep working. Anyone tried it on their x51v ? Can someone with a x51v download the drivers and see if they even install?

http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl..._keyboard.html

Thanks

Ok, sent a message to Palm Tech Support. Great good it did me.

My message:

Quote:
Will the Palmone Universal Wireless Keyboard work with my PocketPC after I upgrade it to WM5?
Their unbelivable reply:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Palm Technical Support. My name is Xavier and I will be assisting you with regard to your query. I understand that you need to know if the Palm™ Universal Wireless Keyboard will work on your Pocket PC after you upgrade it to WM5.
as much as I want to help you, but I regret that it may not be possible to use a Palm accessory with another type of handheld. I also regret that I have no knowledge of the WM5 upgrade and cannot give you information regarding this matter. You may want to contact your handhelds technical support team for further assistance.
My reply to them:

Quote:
Dear Xavier,
You wrote "that it may not be possible to use a Palm accessory with another type of handheld".
In case you didn't know, your Universal keyboard is, how should I say this, universal. To tell you the truth, you even have drivers to use it on a Pocket PC on your website! So please check your information and get back to me. I'd like to know if the drivers are WM5 compatible or not.
Thanks,
And their second reply:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Palm Technical Support. My name is AC and I will be assisting you with your inquiry. I understand you want to know the compatibility of WM5 to Universal Wireless keyboard. I know how important it is for you that this issue be resolved at the soonest possible time.
This may or may not work, I suggest to try using the drivers from our website:
http://www.palm.com/us/support/accessories/universal_wireless_keyboard.html
From this web site, you can see what are the devices compatible with the keyboard. If it doesn't work, try checking from time to time if an updated driver will be released.
I think I'm talking to a mechine....

Since no one has replied to this I figured I'd go ahead and try it out myself. The PPC driver installs fine on my X50v upgraded to WM5, and they keyboard works perfectly. However, I do get an annoying error about power management every time I restart the driver, which equates to every time I soft reset my Axim! At least it doesn't seem*to affect keyboard operation at all, so I'm happy.

Obviously palmOne hasn't officially said anything about WM5 support, and their helpdesk guys are clueless, so try this at your own risk.

A2E At least you received a reply from Palm! I am still waiting...

The Palm Universal Wireless Keyboard is actually a Darfon G6R0 keyboard.

http://www.darfon.com/2005_HTM/HID/Portable_G6R0.htm

I emailed Darfon and they said that the keyboard is currently not supported in WM5, but they should have a driver available in May, 2006. Once the driver is finished, they will give it to Palm to customize.

Currently Darfon is not posting any drivers for the G6R0 keyboard, so I am unsure if they will be posting their WM5 driver.

Good news guys. The palmOne Universal Keyboard does indeed work on my X51v, using the drivers that are found on the link in A2E's post.

Cheer,

Do you get the power management error message every time the driver loads?

IT did it after I installd it. I'm not sure what i did, but after I either soft resetted or hooked up the keyboard the first time, I didn't get the power message afterwards.

only thing i wish is that there was a way to put a function hotkey to the softkeys.

yep, same here. I just purchased the keyboard 3 days ago and I'm lobing it (i have a01 WM5 installed as well) the power management warning does pop up occasionally.

but good news, if you have a remote control program (i.e. NoviiRemote) it will turn off your infrared keyboard driver automatically and use the port for the remote software.

well, we'll see. it pretty much works in WM5, but if they say they'll update the driver i'm all for it.

Just got mine today. Works great!

Axim x51v A06

The power management message did come up right after the install, but from what I can tell, its because there was no keyboard, and it was not initiated in the program.

I just enabled the keybaord, and checked the power management option, and it worked just fine!

Now i can finally type in class, so happy!

I only ended up paying $40, not bad.

works on my x51v but......
I use dual language on mine (english os but have a korean localizer) and the software that comes with the keyboard (1.0) works with both languages (not hot key support). I tried the updated driver on the palm site (2.something) and the hot keys worked but there was no dual language support.
I went back to 1.0 since the lang support is more important to me than the hot keys. I would like both though.
Emailed Palm but no reply.

Anyways hope this helps if dual language support is important to you.
