I’ll say maybe:
1. Make more money
2. Make flash mobile developers pay more in licensing fees
3. Stop people from calling the Flash ActiveX in their software
4. Adobe Microsoft (Microsoft to release a new web anim format!)
5. ...

Ps. I’ll have to check the EULA, if not prohibited; I could email it to you! (473KB)

well, since microsoft has it's version of flash in the works, it seems that macromedia is shooting its self in the foot already. so, not ppc internet flash, and the flash file player costs $500.... good move

A coworker of mine just got off the phone with Macromedia. They confirmed the $500 price tag.

I can only imagine that this price is to help support their tremendous crack habit. =)

Actually I believe they are very into flash mobile!
When you have multimillion users all over the world, at some point you’ll have to start collecting on your investments..
They figure manufacturer (and developers) will pay for the licensing fees to have flash player preinstalled on their product (and software).

I couldn't get the cached version from Google for some reason, but it's also cached on Yahoo! and the download link still works. I successfully downloaded the installer. :approve:

You could always buy an standalone players from third party software developers (like the one from antmobile for $14.95; However I believe they are calling the flash ActiveX in that program, e.g. you'll have to have the free player or maybe they’ll provide it with purchase!!)

I wonder if Macromedia knows about this.No one will buy their product since it costs $485 more than the competition!
How is it that the PC player is still free?

Yes, they do know about it, they even refer to them as an alternative player!!

The $500 licensing fee allows you to freely distribute the standalone player with your content in form of a projector (e.g. you distribute an *.exe file that once in users PPC will play the content that is attached to it!)

It is kind of unmanageable!
I think “shooting yourself on the foot” will really apply there
