WM5 Upgrade CD - Void the warranty?

I recently purchased a X50 and this included the WM5 Upgrade CD when it is made available by Dell. The X50 came with WM 2003 SE installed.

Here's the question -

Does the user installation of WM5 effectively void the warranty and remove Dell from any responsibility for the operation of the PDA?

The installation of a new OS is a significant change in the product that Dell supplied to its customer in good faith and as per its EULA. While the Upgrade CD comes from Dell and there is the expectation that it would work as expected, if the device in any way becomes unstable or unusable (and the upgrade unreversable to a time when the PDA was working), it's unclear to me that Dell is responsible to fulfill its warranty on the original device and OS.
Moreover, if they do accept that the warranty holds, should it not be the case that that the original warranty / support holds for the hardware part, but that the warranty / support for the OS be from the date WM5 is installed and registered?

If the user installation effectively nullifies any part of the Dell Warrranty, then users should demand that they be able to send their PDAs back free for a factory install to maintain it, or may wish to look twice at the benefit of installing it themselves.

It shouldn't void anything as it's a dell supported upgrade. As it's sold with x50s there is a expectation that it should work.. If your in doubt read the small print that you get with it before you install.

I am pretty sure that it does not nullify the warranty in anyway. You are installing an OS that has been tested and certified by Dell on a platform that it claims will work fine. So after installing WM5 from the Dell CD on a X50, if you have any problems then it is Dell's responsibility to fix it. Now if you install WM5 on a X30 and if that gives you an expensive paper-weight then Dell is not responsible for the loss.

I think there were some posts from other upgrades from Dell that locked up for a few people, and I thought they got Dell to send replacements. I did a search but couldn't find those, but I thought I remember seeing them, you might do a little more searching that I did I just searched for upgrade.
