Wireless DRM music transfer?

I don't think DRM will let me do this, but maybe one of you has had success.

I plan to mount a new X50 in my car and not take it out. So what I'd like to do is pull into my driveway go into the house and transfer music to it over my WiFi network. I'm fairly certain that this will be possible with MP3s, since I am using Jriver Media Center which allows you to set up a network directory as a portable device. So onto the problem.

I really hope to use Rhapsody or Yahoo Music's subscription service and do the same thing. I think I'll be forced to use the service's prorietary player on my XP machine. I think for security reasons it won't let me transfer over a network, or even directly to a CF card.

Has anyone tried something like this?

Thanks,
Jeff

I do know they won't let you transfer music directly to a CF of SD card. You can use the Axim and the music will play via WMP 10.

Thanks for the reply. I know that I can put the Axim in the cradle and transfer DRM subscription tracks to it. Then use WMP10 to playback on the Axim.

Is that the only way? Can anyone confirm transfering via a CF card, i.e. Remove the CF card from the Axim, put it in a card reader, transfer subscription music. Then place card back in axim and play back via WMP10.

But... I'd really like to do all this wirelessly. How cool would it be to sync your car up to your music library. My driveway would be the cradle :approve:

Any thoughts?
-Jeff

Transfering DRM files via a card reader won't work. If you can figure out how to transfer them via wifi, let me know.

Once again I know they will not let you transfer the songs directly to your SD or CF cards. You have to be connected viw ActiveSync so I imagine if you set up your PDA using AS 3.8 and never upgrade you could sync via from inside the house click on Yahoo Music Syn while you are connected from your car.

Rhapsody and Windows Media Player do not allow me to transfer DRM wma files to my device via WiFi. The Axim has to be docked w/USB for it to work.

So, how about bluetooth? Anyone doing this?

I don't think it's the physical dock that is the requirement.

Re-read tiger_splash's post. s/he's suggesting to do it via Wifi using an activesync connection. Have you tried that?

I was not able to find tiger_splash's post that you were refering to. But, my experience has been that you can sync via WiFi, but only those things within the ActiveSync program (Contacts, email, files, etc...). Once you open Windows Media Player and Rhapsody's player, the device is not listed.

In order to transfer DRM protected music files, you need to use a compatible Media Player to do it, otherwise the license is not correctly transfer onto the Axim.

So, I'm in a bind. The USB connection is so damn slow and restrictive. I have a wireless laptop that I use for managing my music connection, and a wireless pocketPC. Its rediculous that I have to hook the two together with a wire, arrg.

So, I'm hoping that ActiveSync 4.1's improved Bluetooth connectivity will save the day, or at least improve it. If any one IS sucessfully transfering DRM protected music to their Axim via WiFi (AS 3.8) or Bluetooth please let me know. I hope I am missing something :)

Thanks,
Jeff
