I certainly agree, having taken the "old operating system" approach a couple of times. I got my first windows 3.0 machine in 1995 (just before the windows 95 release), and also used windows ME long after the rest of the world was using XP and had forgotten about it.
This situation is not much different. What seems like "tested technology" as of this week will soon be forgotten as people work out issues and standardize with the new OS.
