I think I read somewhere on the forum (but couldn't find it again!) that the X51 uses the MS Bluetooth stack which does not support A2DP while the X50V can be upgraded to A2DP using an HP patch for the Widcomm stack. If that's the case, then the X50V would seem to be the better bet if you want to use it for stereo audio.

I certainly agree, having taken the "old operating system" approach a couple of times. I got my first windows 3.0 machine in 1995 (just before the windows 95 release), and also used windows ME long after the rest of the world was using XP and had forgotten about it.

This situation is not much different. What seems like "tested technology" as of this week will soon be forgotten as people work out issues and standardize with the new OS.

x50 or x51? That is the question... I say if you don't need a new pda now than wait and get the next best one. But wait, can you ever really have the next best one or will there always be a better one on the way?

There has been a lot of discussion about the x50 vrs x51 re-speed issues. No one can answer this since the x50 with a WM5 upgrade has not been benchmarked yet. People who have used both machines have noticed that the x51 is slower than the x50 running 2003SE. This makes sense since the x50 is running directly from RAM and the x51 has to first load into RAM and then execute the program. There has also been some discussion about the ROM used in the x51 vrs the x50 ROM - they are different but no one know what this will mean in real terms since, again, no one has yet benchmarked the x50 with WM5.

One advantage of the x50 is that you have the choice wheither or not to upgrade. Based on early reports of the x51 and possible speed issues this might be an advantage, at least until some of the bugs are worked out of WM5.

However, it will run about the same when it does get WM5. It will load and unload programs from ROM to RAM and back as well. That's what WM5 does. And the only thing some of the reviewers say is that the x51 uses a slightly faster ROM (@ 256mb) rather than the x50's slightly slower 128mb ROM...but who knows.

the price diff is very small in some other countries website... ( like Hong Kong ), x51v is 3.2K HK dollar.. which is 410 USD... if you have connection/ live in those places.. i don't see any reason buying the old model, x50v..
