Why to buy the x51v instead of x50v....

Here an initiative from my side to create a bulletlist with pro's and con's for people who want do buy a dell x51v/or x50v..

Pros X50 vs X51:
Finetuned OS
Wifi, BT and USB Sync
Active Sync works great
More bluetooth profiles
More rom updates

Cons X50 vs X51:
Less memory then X51v, but rom can be replaced with external flashcards
Windows Mobile 5 has been optimized for VGA acceleration (little bit) - X51v is a lil bit faster
Will X50v work with WM 5? Does is has enough mem (64 mb, will WM5 be satisfied with it)

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Pros x51 vs x50:
X51 has more memory
new Windows, high gadget-rate
VGA works a lil bit better

Cons X51 vs X50:
Bug in SD appearance
Lot of ActiveSync 4.0 problems
White screen of death
everything is the same, except for the OS and the extra mem

PM me if you have more pro's and cons and i will add them asap...

Lets start the discussion!!!

I hadn't picked up that VGA works a bit better with WM5. Why is that?

Are you sure the X51v is faster, even though it runs from ROM?

maybe if you read some of the threads around here you'd know some of the answers to these questions that have been asked tons of times.

eah man...a quick search will bring up more information that you can handle.....personally...i just got the x50v....why..because the x51 has a new untested os...and since i'm getting wm05 with my device...no need to go with the x51v...as for memory....a large sd card does it for me....and one last thing....the x50v is a stable device...just look around the forums and you''ll see....but its all based on personal preference....

I'm not sure I understand your points here. Or even the reason for this thread.

If you want to debate the benefits of the X50 vs the X51 you go right ahead. I venture to guess that the difference is not worth discussing.

2 differences...
x50/51 are the same except...

51 has wm5, and 256mb ROM...that's it. otherwise its the same hardware.

In my humble opinion,
The answer is hiding in the question.

"Why to buy the x51v instead of x50v .."

No reason !
With one exception : difference in prices that justify it.

I don't think any commercial review has properly addressed these items.

But, hey, thanks for your help anyway!

I reckon that in general, it is almost always better to buy the latest technology, and benefit from the lessons learned by the manufacturer, and the incorporation of 'leading edge' peripherals.

Sure, there will be exceptions to this, but that's what they are...exceptions.

By purchasing the latest, you should be assured of the longest support programme. IT companies like Dell and others will drop the old stuff as quickly as possible.

My $0.02 worth only.

Actually I disagree, I'd rather not be on the bleeding edge. I never buy a revision a computer or PDA and I wait a while to see if the current batch has any systemic problems.

I'm not sure if the X51 is considered a new device or just a rebranded x50 with more memory? I'd probably say the latter and in that case there's less risk

Personally, I was leaning for a 50. But, Jaspeakm convinced me: buying a 51 will give me a longer support program. And, there is another rational in my mind: inventing, discovering, testing new technologies make the humankind go ahead. WM 2005, though with bugs , is a new technology.
