Well I have a media center PC that is completely sterile from almost all other programs. I have activesync installed on that and will try to sync to that computer when I get a chance and see if that helps. Thanks for giving me that thought!

Firewall? A/S uses TCP/IP, which to a firewall setup looks like somebody coming from the Internet into your system. You have to allow that connection. The recent "fixes" from Micro$oft have "fixed" the firewall and caused A/S problems for me until I changed the firewall settings (basically, I killed the M$ firewall completely and use the Symantec firewall instead. I end up having to tolerate the warning messages from M$, but that's better than not having ActiveStink work.

might be something there...
when i was playing around, ie., doing some testing, in one of my machines (with a recently installed set of McAfee's Security Suite - the one with a firewall)... the first time i tried synching, McAfee Firewall gave me a warning, and a choice on what to do with AS...
Ok, here's a very happy update! I solved the problem by removing my Lexar 1GB SD card!!!! This removal incidently also solved some other Axim-related problems such as SKTools closing unexpectedly and MemMaid not being able to load (the spinning circle didn't stop).
I should note that I only stumbled onto this solution AFTER I reformatted my desktop and went from Xp Pro to Xp Home, hard reset my Axim and manually installed everything back, and disabled all firewalls and antiviruses!!! My next step is to reformat my card to see if it helps.
I've been syncing everyday for months and suddenly today I can't sync anymore.
On the x50v, I see a popup "USB User Authenticated", hear the Activesync connect sound, followed immediately by the Activesync disconnect sound.
On the PC (Windows XP Pro, Activesync 3.7.1) I hear the USB connection chime, then ActiveSync displays the "Looking for changes", then an error message "Sync cannot be completed..."
I tried a wifi sync and go the same problem.
Other data:
I also found that the SD card (Lexas 1Gb) had some problems last night when an MP3 file wouldn't play. I removed it and fixed it on the PC with the Windows File Explorer check disk utility.
I took the SD card out and Activesync still doesn't work. Of course I tried several times with rebooting both the PC and the Axim.
The same thing happens to me too often.....which is why...........I HATE ACTIVESYNC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS. When i uncheck all of my sync options it syncs just fine. when i check any of them i also get a sync error. If you read some of my other posts you'll see this problem is way to common. :rolling:
i guess there is some important info in here - withstanding some specific cases (like the cause being an SD card), it remains to find out what could be the connection between WinXP Pro and ActiveSync not working (which are the TWO common variables here)...
i would suggest that this thread be made more important, at least temporarily sticky so that we get in more replies (mostly based on user opinion and experience)...
in this regards - maybe we can come up with some sort of findings???
or am i just being paranoic here?

Can this thread somehow be renamed to reflect the content? And then be made [temporarily] sticky?
Regards...

I'm pretty sure that I've turned off the MS firewall, but I will double check on that also, thank you for the tip!!

So, essentially, ejecting the card and trying to sync is what I could do to try and attempt your fix? I also just happen to have a 1GB SD card. Geez, what similarities!

Activesync is one of those great MS programs that works if you are using it the way MS expects you to use it.
Previus problems I've had with active sync and their solution explanation.
Corrupt .pst file (opens fine on PC but no sync) run in box repair tool, a calendar corruption lead to a recurring apointment crashing activesync
Low battery on the old X5 just having a low battery and no power cable connected could lead to start sync and then disconnect, some have reported same problem on the x50
Not enough CF card for attachments, I tried to sync a mail that had a 5Mb attachment, although the CF card reported 28Mb free it wouldn't go
Corrupt CF card (as above) copying the attachment to the card crashed out the sync
Corrupt AS dll, after installing an outlook security add-in which incorrectly downgraded a dll, the only fix was to install a later AS version
Conclusion when it works its ok, when it doesn't you want to see if your computer floats

I'll write down the steps of what I did to resolve it, hoping to shed some light on this matter. My problem is described on the previous page.
Was the problem on the PC or on the Axim? I went to the storeroom and took an old PC out of mothballs. Reformatted the hard drive, installed Win XP Pro and Activesync and Outlook 2002 from the original disk.
A guest partnership worked on Old_PC. Next I tried to establish a named partnership and got the same Activesync problem. OK, so the problem is on the Axim. I deleted the partnership and went back to Guest.
Now that I had a working Guest connection on Old_PC, I backed up everything on the hard disk: BIS, SD Card, main memory. Performed an Activesync backup and a backup using the built-in PPC utility as well as Sprite. Fired up Memmaid, cleaned everything in sight, and backed up again. Tried to establish a partnership - still the same problem.
So the Axim would not partner with a virginal PC. Maybe if I upgraded to ActiveSync 3.8? No, still the same problem. Therefore the problem was on the Axim.
Since I recently had a corruption problem with the SD card, I replicated the data and popped in a fresh card. AS partnership still not working.
Time for a hard reset. Since I was still on A04, it was a good time to go to A05. I didn't want to reinstall so I just went by the backup/restore route. I did a complete backup using Activesync, and after the ROM upgrade, did a complete restore.
AS works again! I still don't know why it broke in the first place. I don't think the upgrade to A05 was necessary. I wish I tried a simple hard reset and restore before I upgraded. I have a feeling that was all that was needed.
