My x50v will not synchronize. I put it in the cradle, it starts as if it is going to synchronize, then it shows an error in activesync for a split second and then says not connected. I have soft reset the axim, reinstalled activesync, tried activesync 4.0, and even deleted my partnership on the computer. it goes through and makes a new partnership, but when it tries to synchronize, again an error.
Any ideas besides a hard reset?
And can I synchronize via wifi?
Thanks! :approve:

Also, after this, I must soft reset the Axim before it will be recognized by activesync at all. This is making me thing it is a problem with activesync on the Axim. Any way to reinstall it?
I also tried removing all items to sync, files, notes, favorites etc. So there is nothing there in the sync list on activesync and it still will not sync...

I 'm sorry to be the one telling you this but the only thing that ^may^ help is reinstalling the Windows (if you are usibg XPpro, no idea on other versions)
Have you installed any new software on the PDA? Do you have a backup from before the AS problem started?
Issues like this can usually be traced to something new that was installed, or something that was deleted.
If you have a backup, then I would suggest trying a hard reset and then restore the backup.
Open Outlook on the pc
Open the inbox
click tools tab
click preferences
click email options
put a check mark in each box BUT the top one
on replies....do not include
on forwarding....include
NO CHECK IN BOTTOM BOX
---------------------------
click mail setup tab
click email accounts
check the view or change box
this brings up another page showing the email accounts that you have set up....it should not be blank
highlight your account and click change
look very closely...this is where most errors occur...look at every word, every period
all 6 boxes need to be filled in
leave secure authentification unchecked
now click on "test account settings"
did it pass? if so...problem solved
if not, cick the "errors" tab and tell me what it says
there are several other settings but lets stop here and see if it now works...if not, we'll look further
remember to let me know!

Can you explain to me how in the world that the POP/SMTP settings in outlook affect the ability to get connected via activesync?
Active synch looks to Outlook FIRST...if there are any problems in your settings....it won't synch
Even if you don't even sync email?
Louse76, I am currently having the exact problem as you. I have deleted my partnership, reinstalled AS as well as hard reset. I got a bit farther by adding the sync items one by one but now it's not syncing again. I am seriously thinking of reformatting (I have Xp Pro but am not sure what that has to do with it...) since I have been having other problems as well.
Just before reformatting, try repairing with the original disk, but I would bet your problem will bee resolved only after reformatting. Sorry, I know this is a head ache. I wouldn't recommend this if this wasn't the only solution for this kind of symptoms. If some one would come with a better one I also would love to know, so please post on this issue
I had the same problem last week and Dell send me a refurbished one as they said the Axim was the problem. When i connected the replacement Axim it synced the first time and then when i restored from my back-up it would not sync again. Dell had me try various things, the last one being to stop all my startup programs after which i could not get back online (was on an online chat with them).
So i spend the next couple of hours re-installing all the essential stuff and its been syncing fine so far. I'm sure its was a software issue now. The last thing i installed before the problem as Resco Voice Recorder.
Hmm... I have resco voice recorder! It's a really great program, but maybe uninstalling it will fix my problem. If we do find that it is the issue, we will need to get on resco's butt to fix the issue NOW!!
And it has been a while, but the last slew of programs that I installed DID INCLUDE this program...

i dont know whether my post would be of any help or not, however just to share:
having been burnt by AS many times before (since WinCE 1.1); i do manage to have a STERILIZED environment for the desktop-counterpart of my Ax (and anything before)...
to explain, i use VMware (i know, it is about U$200...), and i created a Win 2K Pro (an OEM license from my previous DIY PCs) 5GB virtual machine. in this setup, i install my AS (currently in 3.8), and any other apps required by the handheld...
and since it is a virtual machine, i am "virtually" insulated from software upgrades, etc. (my present host machine is a WinXP Pro SP2 notebook) - at least guaranteeing me a stable environment (hopefully so when VISTA arrives)...
and since it is only about 5GB in size, it is quite easy to make a duplicate copy (COPY and PASTE) before installing any new apps - and thus being able to rollback if ever necessary...
any thoughts???
