X51 v will not connect with V710
I can't get the X51v to connect with my V710 cell phone via bluetooth. I had a Palm t3 before and it connected great. The bluetooth manager screen looks nothing like the example on this web site. I am running version 5.

Not sure about x51, but my x50 worked perfectly with my 710. You should be able to.

just be aware that the v710 is crippled in that there is NO WAY that you can transfer data...it will work as a modem though

Here's a Quote from slashdot today on this subject.
"When hordes of people bought up the Motorola V710 upon its release a year ago, Slashdot readers may remember many impressive features including the cutting edge Bluetooth features (picture/mp3 transfer, wireless syncing) as described on Motorola's website. However, when used with the popular Verizon Wireless cell phone service provider, many Bluetooth features were sadly crippled (apart from a wireless headset) because OBEX features had been purposely disabled by Verizon. Hundreds of people donated to a hacker rewards program to unlock the full features of the phone to the tune of $3000, but was never fully successful. Well, one year later, the Los Angeles Superior Court (PDF Warning) and Verizon have announced the initial steps of a Class Action Lawsuit that appears to be influenced by the user community allowing everyone who bought it before the start of 2005 a few options for compensation--including a refund up to the purchase price of another phone which, interestingly enough, is a lot easier to hack."

without hacks
First the hacking stuff was very successful. The there are seveal hack out there that work very well, perfect!
Without hacks I can connect to my x50v to 710 for dialup modem (14.4K network limited) and also use vzw for high speed access (112K I believe) to the internet via BT.
Yes, the 710 adn e815 have disabled most BT functions, but are very capable of doing them with hacks. You will need a data cord for about $6 off many websites, and a couple software programs also available for free off the internet, Motorola Mobile Phone tools, Seems edit programs, PST (phone tool thing). Then you can BT sync, tx files, and use vzw(e815 has vzw disabled).
There is a lot of info and guides out there to accomplish this. If you cannot find any guides, I can post links later after work. I am waiting for my data cable now. It should be in today to hack my E815! Funny how ALLLLL Verizon sales persons will tell you you can syn via BT and also transfer files, etc. Boy, they ALLLLL need to learn their products.

I've got a V710 and X51v. I got the X51v to use the V710 as a modem. I'll admit it was tricky and weird. Took me a while to figure it out.
If I remeber correctly, I would have the V710 in discoverable mode (the 'Find Me' option on the V710) and the X51v would scan find it and then ask for a passkey. Confirm on the V710 but when the BT profile list came up on the X51v it would be empty. I clicked 'Ok' or whatever. Then my X51v would say "Motorola Phone wants to bond with your handheld. Confirm?" <-something along that line.
I would click yes and this time I would see modem listed as an option. If you have trouble and can't get it to work as a modem just send me a PM or reply.
Hope this helps. Maybe I should do this again and take pictures? A step-by-step guide maybe?

I was messing with this last week and couldn't get it to work either. I am new to PPCs and Bluetooth so I expect I was doing something wrong. I could get the two devices to bond but would never see a modem listed as an option, no options listed at all.
Do you configure this from the Bluetooth configuration or is it part of setting up a modem connection? I was working in Bluetooth configuration.
I did find a couple of interesting V710 sites but haven't had much time for looking around.

I am still having issues with the X51v connecting to my V710. I can scan and see the V710, get prompted for a passcode on each, but never see the V710 listed as a modem.
Any help would be appreciated

My X50v has no problems communicating through my V710. I set up the profile manually by clicking on "connections, and adding a bluetooth modem. I'd be surprised if it doesn't work for you as well.

I can see the phone from the Axim, I enter in a passcode, the phone asks if I want to bond and asks for a passcode, then on the Axim I get a connection failed message.
I have deleted the connection on both the phone and the Axim a number of times. I have also changed the display name for the phone. I have also fully powered off each device. I am typing the passcode very carefully on each device. I am using a 4 digit numerical number.
What am I missing?

Bluetooth profiles are blank
I am having the EXACT same problem. Just replaced my Axim X5 with the X51v and can bond to my motorola v710 with no difficulties. However, there is NO profile to select for dial-up modem. The list is blank. All you can do is click REFRESH which does nothing, or FINISH, which deletes the partnership since the connection settings were not completed.
I would really like to know how you got the profiles to come up, no matter how convoluted the procedure was. Obviously, it worked just fine with the old PDA, no reason it should not with the new.
Not sure why anyone is having difficulty with the passcode to begin with though. On Dell Axim's the default is "1234" and on most motorola phones it's "0000." Regardless, the key just needs to match on both devices, it can be whatever you wish.
Also, yes, just received my settlement paperwork in the mail regarding the class action suit as well. Don't confuse the fact that while most bluetooth servies were crippled, the heaset and modem profiles reamined intact. As usual, we get $25, the attorneys about $6+ million. That seems fair, right?

A little more progress
OK. So now I get the alert on the PDA that the motorola phone wants to connect. I managed to do this by creating a new CONNECTION and selecting BLUETOOTH under SELECT A MODEM and then after clicking NEXT, click REFRESH. The phone asks to bond with the PDA and then after entering a passcode, the PDA reports the phone wishes to bond and you should enter the same passcode. Make certain that the partnership DOES NOT already exist under Bluetooth Link/Device History. If so, make certain to delete it first.
Now, I have just one problem left, while they try to bond the phone resets itself everytime. Never saw this before.
Anyone run into this issue? My firmware is quite old 8700_1.308F and I'm thinking of having it flashed to the latest version at verizon wireless.
Can you tell me what version of the OS do you have? It's under Phone Status/Other Information/SW version.

I agree everything appears to be working on mine as well. Then at the end I get this message on the Axim
Unable to connect
Your device did not connect with "Phone device name"
The network connection failed or the passkey is incorrect
In the Partnership Settings
"No modem listed"
The software version on my phone is 8700_01.40.0R
Is this an older version?

Software Revision
No, you've got the latest "official" wireless verizon software. My version was the initial release. Even though I'm getting it updated tomorrow, since you can't connect, I'm not holding out much hope.
I used a socket bluetooth card before that was great, and which would seem stupid in a PDA with a bluetooth radio built-in, but perhaps this may make a difference. They tell me they won't have drivers for Windows Mobile 5 (even though it was released 5 months ago) for another month.
I'll let you know if I have any further success when the phone is upgraded tomorrow. Though, I would really like to hear from the one person in this forum who says they've got it working!

There are some other threads on the forum talking about this. There is at least one guy who said his was working. I don't remember if he was running WM5. Probably not, I think it was an older thread.
