I'm not sure what version of windows you're using, but when I installed MS reader to anything other than the main memory it wouldn't function. The ebooks can be on the BIS or cards but the program must be in main memory.
Microsoft reader will not activate if you install it to Built In Storage or an expansion card, it is an old, well known problem. Install to RAM for problem-free activations :).
Ahh, that explains it! I installed to CF and the icon installed on programs was whited out. Removed the thing since it obviously didn't work.
There we go again, more programs wanting to go to default only.
WTB Extended Memory Module!

It seems that Microsoft software is one of the worst offenders when it comes to be being required to reside in main memory. In my experience, you can add Money and Streets to that list. Like Reader, you can have the docs these programs access/create stored anywhere, but the actual program eats into RAM.
I had a problem getting my Reader to activate as well - but discovered a completely unrelated reason - Passport wasn't happy playing on an alternative browser on my computer. Switched over to IE and it activated with no problem.
Can anyone say 'anti-competitive'?

well, Windows Update, or even Office Update for that matter DOES not seem to work on anything else except Internet Explorer...
PS: well, there are some cases (recently) that it ALSO does not work with IE until the Windows Update URL is explicitly added to the "trusted sites" configuration.... (hhhmmm... even IE doesnt trust M$, eh?)
Install it to Main memory, activate it and then copy the entire directory with it in it to your card. Activation puts four security files in the directory, which is why it seems to fail. Once it's activated, you can move the entire lot, including the security files anywhere. Just don't lose the security files or you'll have to repeat the process.
Thanks so much, it really helped my newbie self all of your above discussion!
