Lockup at password screen?

I attempted to setup wifi with a router and was only able to connect through the cradle. Some how, I received a message error page that said an eroor had occurred and then the axim stopped working to the point in which it will not let me enter a password and is stuck with the keyboard showing and the curser flasing.

I have let the system set for 8 hours without the battery in the system and I put the battery back in, it is still in the same condition. Any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix???

although the pda should have reset itself by leaving the battery out, have you tried a hard reset? use the styis to push in the reset on the back while you hold down the power button at the same time. you will have to push the button on the front that it tells you to. beware that you will lose all your installed programs and data but i suspect you may have alredy done that anyway when you left the battery out. I am assuming that you didn't have it in the cradle while the battery was out?

Did you try a soft reset, just pushing the little button in the back.

Tried your suggestion and now the screen shows to press the screen in a to retore factory settings and it will not let me. Do you think it has a virus?

Double-check (physically) the lock-button on the left side of the Axim. Push it up and back down.

Don't assume, try it. I happened to get locked out and then found I was locked out. The joys of a tight fitting case, it moved the button when being fit into place.

Tryied the lock button and nothing. This thing is really locked up. I had the thing set over night witout the battery and it si still locked up. The screen shows the password prompt screen and a keyboard with the ENTER key light up in black while the rest are white. I spoke with Dell and they are calling me back and said may have to reconfigure the whole system and reinstall the software?

nice answer. the only thing they can do is a hard reset. there isn;t anything to install. when you got the message to push the button, you tried pushing the actual button, not the screen right? sorry if that seems stupid but it has happened before. if that didn't work then it is time for a new one.

most often this type of problem is due to a new application

that was recently installed and is creating conflicts.

people suggesting a hardreset are merely suggesting

to uninstall any or all third party applications.

although you could uninstall these application one by one.

usualy you have to keep farting around with softreset's

until you can get into the pda, and then start the removal

of the said third party application if any.

if you didnt installed any new (third party) application.

then get on the horn with cs @ dell , you should get a

replacement unit.

I got in?? Don't know how or why but I got in. the first screen that appeared was recording? I turned the password word off for now to see if everything goes back the way it was.
