Why are my task and menu bars only 27px high in VGA mode?
I've been going somewhat crazy trying to skin my x50v the way I like it with WA and what not. The problem that I am having is that my menubar and taskbar are only 27 pixels high, thus squashing all my nifty skins.
I found a registry setting that seems to effect that, but when I changed it to 52px (I'm running in true VGA with ozVGA), nothing changes.
What am I missing? Thanks!

There is no more data in the graphics so although you may set space for the bars to be bigger, the icons in that space are 27 px in size. You need to find, if they exist, 52 px graphics for those things.

The skins for the menu/task bar are absolutely 52px high, I verified that.
And on my device, it is obvious that the images are being scaled to fit into 26 pixel high area, rather then 52. The have an obvious squashed look.

Well, I'd suggest you avoid the registry hacks and wait for the oz_vga and SE-VGA developers to update their hacks to do what you want. I'm sure they are working on those hacks.

It was indeed ozVGA causing the problem. i was under the impression that I needed to use it to realize full VGA. I see that is not the case as I continue to experiment with this new device!
Thanks for your input.

26 pixels heights upper/lower bar is the soul of real VGA! IMO. Or what's the difference from QVGA? On PHYSICAL QVGA screen PDAs, the heights is natively 26 pixels, but On PHYSICAL VGA screen PDAs which run under QVGA mode, the heights need to be doubled to make them look the same size, since every pixel needs to be doubled. So on these logical res 320*240 but physical res 640*480 devices, people made 52 pixels height themes and other take n*m logical space but with 2n*2m actual size stuff, like the Chinese handwriting SIP on my x50v. So once in real VGA mode, u can't take advantage any more from the double size trick since the logical and physical res are identical VGA there.
So don't be so sad cause 26 pixels bars is indeed what you want, since u have OzVGAed it, apply a standard QVGA theme instead, u will feel as happy as me too!

Well, I actually prefer the 52px bars, they just look too darn good to pass up with all these new VGA skins coming out!
I'm not using ozVGA anymore as most of my apps are all VGA aware now. Those that aren't, I just force into VGA by copying the hack file into the appropriate folder.
So, for me, I have the best of all worlds by having a beautiful true VGA Today screen and being able to apply VGA on individual apps as needed.
The other obvious advantage is with most of the games out there. All the QVGA games (which is most of them) all break in ozVGA mode, requiring a reset into QVGA mode. Now I don't have that problem.
