Today I received my x51v and have had some very good luck so far, but I did find something rather strange.
When I ordered the Axim, I also ordered a Belkin case for it. The case came with my order and I noticed that there was a hole in the case. At first I was a bit upset but then I noticed that the whole lined up perfectly with the soft reset button. Have they designed this unit to the extent that they believe a soft reset is this common? This reminds of Windows 95; if you have a problem just reboot it. Perhaps Microsoft could put a bit more work into this and make is as stable as XP?? Telling us to simply reboot everytime you have issues smells pretty bad to me!
Soft reboots are quite common, but they arn't always the result of crashes.
You need to reboot the PPC often when you install new software or drivers.
There is no cause for concern. WM2003 was a reasonably stable OS (I'm guessing WM5 probably is too). It entirely depends on your useage of the device as to how often you will be resetting it.
I wouldn't be so quike to blame MS too, while soft resets are common its, not like its a daily exercise and it can be the result of a buggy program, one with a memory leak. While some of the components to WM2003 certainly have memory leaks which a soft reset returns the memory to being available, other programs are just as guilty.
Wait till you have to perform a bunch of soft resets to fix some crash, or when you realize that the lock-out switch got slid up. It is nice to have that hole in the back, providing the hole is in the proper place. (my {snip} case is a tad off, needs an upper thrust to reset.)

When you install a new program on your desktop you are sometimes ask to reboot. The reset button serves as the same function on your new Axim.
soft reboot is a good thing, sometimes your pda can get clog up with memory leaks and temporary files. if pda is slow, a soft reboot will solve most of ur problem. also deleting temporary internet files will also help.

It not only is a daily excercise for me, I do it about 4-5 times a day!
Pretty maddning really. Something must not be right with my new x50v, because I get about 3 hard locks a day (even if I'm doing nothing at all) and then just about anytime I need to use wireless, I need to re-boot first.
I fully understand the need for the hole, I just find it strange that even the developer of the OS recommends rebooting everytime you are having issues. Must be easier to have us reboot than for them to fix the problems??
I have my X50V (and all my PocketPCs so far) do a full backup and auto soft reset at 4am every day. So when I wake up in the morning, I get a nice fresh machine.
i guess rebooting/resetting has been accepted as a norm for MS windows products in general. we are all so used to it that it doesnt feel wrong anymore. if i have to 'softreset' my mobile phone or GBA 2-3 times a day i would consider sending it back for repairs
