x51 Bluetooth Manager.. WHERE is it?
I have an x30 high and a friend of mine just purchased a new x51. When comparing the rwo devices we're noticing some strange differences in some of the fundamental apps included with the OSes. Anyone running WM2003SE is well aware of the "Bluetooth manager" that is accessed when you click on the bluetooth icon on the lower right. When We click on that same icon on the x51 running WM5, there is NO BLUETOOTH MANAGER?! No bluetooth wizards and device icons?
Are we just looking in the wrong place? Where is the Bluetooth Manager in WM5?

I haven't used WM2003, but I have an X51v. I click the bluetooth icon and see tabs that let me find/use devices or com ports.
Isn't that what the Bluetooth manager is?

I just ran a PPC 2003 SE emulator in Visual Studio 2005.
I clicked the bluetooth icon in that and saw identical to what is on the X51v.
So, whatever you have might be something extra.

Now that I see the screen shots, I rememeber that on all my old iPAQs.
I don't see it anywhere on my X51v.
I can still find devices, see services on them, and then use those services.
The UI just isn't quite as nice.

Have you had any look transferring pictures etc from other devices, phones in particular? I just can't manage this with my x51v and all the other PPCs do it without a hitch.
The x51v certainly seems to be missing a lot of the bluetooth sutff normally oresent in bt manager.

No, I haven't. I just had it see what it could do with my cell phone. I'm not sure who in the office has a bluetooth PPC. I can see though.

Anyone that might have a bluetooth PPC is away from their desk right now.
I tried playing with my cell phone a bit more and couldn't get the X51v to do anything of much use with it.
So, I guess what is there is lacking a bit more than the better UI...

Yep, just read a few other posts and it seems no one can do phone pic transfers.
Oh well, no one said life on the bleeding edge would be easy..

The BT stack in the x51 is from Microsoft. The stack with the lovely BT Manager in the x50 series is from Widcomm/Broadcom. That's why they're different.

Not just UI
It's not just "a prettier UI". It's missing stuff like the incoming/outgoing connection screen which vusially shows you strength bars for the bluetooth packet data moving back and forth. It's missing the Activesync via bluetooth option, It's missing all of the bluettoth connection wizards. It's pretty crazy to think the new OS doesn't include any of this.

2003 technically doesn't either. I believe it was up to the people slapping their name on the PDA whether they wanted to go with the default BT stack or not. It does seem a bit sad that Dell chose to drop the much better Broadcom stack. I've actually been looking for a way to bootstrap it onto my x51.

I have a feeling that the last Broadcom/Widcomm stack might have been incompatible with Windows Mobile 5, and so Dell were just forced to fall back on the "less-feature-packed-but-at-least-it-works-to-some-extent" Microsoft stack.
Hopefully, if and when Broadcom gets up to speed with Windows Mobile 5, we may get updates incorporating a new Broadcom stack.

Unfortunately, you would be wrong. The Broadcom BT stack is alive and well. It works just fine on iPAQs equipped with WM5. Dell choose not to use it.

I have a Motorola Razor and I can transfer pics using the "send to" or "copy to" functions of the phone. It also works the other way around. You just can't do it like you would normally do it with two bluetooth devices. Thanks Dell - NOT!!!
