Grrr, UPS

UPS was scheduled to deliver my X51v today and my wife was going to be home all day except for 30 minutes to pick up the kids from school. Great. Only, guess when they come by the house? Not great. And no yellow sticky since apparently someone has to sign in person for the delivery.

Unfortunately no one is going to be home for the next 6 days during the day due to business trips and work. The thought of my new Axim being driven aimlessly around the city while I sit and pine for it is killing me.

You can go online to UPS website and have them redirect it to work or a trusted neighbor/friend as long as it/they are in the same town. I did that with my highspeed modem package that they tried to deliver to my house during work hours. About 30 seconds after I placed the redirect order online, UPS called my home to verify it and my friend received it at her house the next day.

I checked online and I think you have to have the InfoNotice (yellow sticky) to get them to redirect.

From the UPS delivery attempt FAQ:
"Will UPS deliver my package to another address?

Yes. Simply write the address you would like to have the package delivered to on the "Comments Line" on the front of the UPS InfoNotice. Then place the UPS InfoNotice back in the same location where the driver originally left it. (This does not apply to "Adult signature required" deliveries.)

You may also submit a Delivery Change Request using the UPS Web site. Enter your 12 digit InfoNotice number on the Tracking page to begin requesting a change of delivery. Select the Redirect Package option to have your package delivered to an alternate address. "

They didn't leave me an InfoNotice so I have no 12 digit InfoNotice number so I can't redirect so I'm S.O.L.

Sorry, didn't read your original post closely enough to see that you didn't get one. Won't let you do it with just a tracking number, huh?

Found this though on UPS.com

"Plan Ahead and Receive Your Package on the First Attempt

To receive your package on the first delivery attempt, track the package and leave a note for the driver on the scheduled delivery day. The note can instruct the driver to either leave the package, or, if a signature is required, deliver it to a nearby neighbor who is home during the day. Other options include having packages sent to an address where someone is available during the day."

Sounds to me like you can stick your own note on the door? I don't have much experience with UPS except for that modem. Don't know if this would work with second attempt though.

My wife left a note on the door to deliver to our neighbors when she was gone to pick up the kids but they apparently ignored it. Thanks for the feedback though, it is helpful.

Hi,
you don't have to know this info-number! You can also use your tracking number you received from dell. Just call UPS, tell them the tracking number and redirect the package. I did this after I saw online that there have been already a delivery attempt. Never got the info note. It works well with the tracking number, so just call dell.
greetings,
Matthias

Update: After arranging with UPS to pick up my Axim from their distribution center tomorrow because I thought there was no way I could be home when they delivered, I somehow managed to catch the UPS driver at my house and take delivery.

I almost didn't take delivery however as the box from Dell was half open, as in the packing tape across the top of the box was split down the middle and one of the box flaps was open. I don't know if Dell puts packing material in these boxes but there was absolutely none of it left when I took delivery. Everything except the UPS sync cable was in the box so I went ahead and accepted from UPS but that was one flimsy packing job by Dell, especially for a package that they required an adult signature on to deliver.

Thanks again for the feedback. Goodbye Palm, hello Axim.

Yeah, they aren't going to drive around town with it in the truck for too long. After a few attempts, they are going to send it back to the originator (Dell).
