charging battery to 100% is that good ?

On my laptop , (IBM T43) there is a battery charging utility , so it wont top to 100% all the time . Because charging to 100 % reduces the life of the Lithium Ion battery.
so it will charge every time (randomly) to something between 95-100 depends on my settings.

I was wondering if there is something similar for the AXIM ?

thanks Danny

You can never really charge a li-ion battery to 100% because of its chemical properties. It's discharging it fully to 0% that really damages it. Also, the more you charge, the better for the battery unlike NiMH cells.

You're right, it'd be best to leave it lower.

I remember reading several things that explained that

(a) it's very bad to frequently drain a Li Ion battery very low,
so it's best to recharge it before it's "deeply" discharged.

(b) It's bad to leave a battery fully charged for an extended
period of time if you don't need it to be so for use in the
immediate future.

(c) it's bad to leave a battery in a high state of discharge
for an extended period.

(d) Therefore the suggestion for storing / maintaining Li Ion
batteries was to leave them around half charged for extended
storage.

(e) There's no "memory effect" relating to the amount of
charge or discharge that's achieved, so it's OK to partially
charge and partially discharge when needed.

(f) Once every month or so, it is good to relatively fully
discharge the battery only because every time the battery is
only partially charged and only partially recharged the charging
circuit loses track of how well charged the battery really is
even though it tries to estimate it pretty closely. So to keep
the battery's true capacity well estimated by the smart charging
circuitry it's good to let is "see" a full charge sometimes.
It's not that great for the battery to fully discharge or fully
charge it, so it's best to only do this infrequently.

So all things considered if one has the discretion / ability
to do so, one might as well keep the battery around 45% charged
for extended disuse / storage, and to limit the charge process
to some reasonably number like 60% to 80% just to avoid excessive
stress on the battery if you won't be needing anywhere near
its full capacity anyway before the next time you know you'll
be able to recharge it.

All things considered after several hundred charge / discharge
processes (1-3 years I suppose depending on use) you'll
probably end up with an impaired battery and it'll be about
time to replace the battery.

Hopefully within a few years they'll be able to replace the
batteries with hydrogen fuel cells anyway which will last longer
and not be so sensitive to degeneration.
