As posted elsewhere I received my WM 5.0 update CD today, as did a bunch of others. I was going to upgrade, but read to many horror stories so far to bother with the risk. I wanted to take a poll to see out of those who risked the upgrade succeeded, and those who did not succeed.
If you were successful and overcame a roadblock, if you could, please post tips or suggestions.
If you were unsuccessful, please let us know where the brick wall is located so we can either avoid or assist in finding the solution.
Thanks in advance.

Good poll! :approve: I picked up my CDs today, but I'm not even going to break the seal until I get some feedback from the more adventerous Aximsite members!
Somehow, Active Sync established a partnership with "Windows PC", and none of the other partnerships can synch Outlook email because of this Windows PC partnership. It does not show up in the computer's Active Sync partnership list so I can not delete it. It is listed on the Axim partnership list but I have not found out how to delete it. I am removing Active Sync and re-installing it to see if that helps.
Also, you have to have a usb connection directly to the motherboard, no peripheral,i.e keyboard, monitor, USB hub, etc. And the fron of the computer case will not work sometimes, you have to use the ones in the back integrated to the mainboard.
If all fails, how hard to Roll Back, does the instll disk make back ups, or do we use Sprite or other 3rd party tools?
I knew that about the USB port when upgrading to A.02, I remember people with the same problems. Also making sure you are using the dock and not a plain usb cable.

I don't know whether it's a bad omen to have received my upgrade on Halloween. Given the mixed reviews I've read so far, I'm going to wait a while before I attempt to install WM5.

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

I did the upgrade today and it went smooth. I haven't added any 3rd party software and won't for a couple of days to learn how WM5 works. I'll do them one at a time with Pocket Informant being the first. I will do them one at a time and see how they work together. I'm sure I will have problems and I will be asking for help.
For me the first item installed would be Pocket Controller so I can see everything on the screen.
I was a big fan of PI, but thinking about not using an added PIM for a while and see what happens as I use SPD diary and with that and Outlook, it should be OK and save a lot of overhead.

Says it all! :approve:
Calamities are of two kinds; misfortunes to ourselves,
and good fortune to Dell and MS WM5. :hide:
I'll wait awhile. Why not? All's working well with
MS 2003SE, Axim X50. :approve:

Let us know if deleting/re-installing ActiveSync 4 helps the problem or not.
Thanks
My WM5 upgrade cd arrived at my doorstep via DHL at about 11:30 this morning, and I found it there when I arrived home from school at about 1 pm.
I performed the upgrade to WM5 after backing up my device, and installing ActiveSync 4.0. It all went smoothly, without a hitch at all. Since then, I have installed the following programs:
SPB Pocket Plus 3.0.4
SPB Folder (current)
Pocket Informant 2005 rev. 3
PhatNotes and free icons for PI
Cash Organizer Premium 6.96
While I haven't extensively used any of these programs yet, I have run them all at least once, if only to register them. I haven't had any problems at all.
Windows Mobile looks nice :) . Loading programs takes some time, but it doesn't bother me too much.

I received my CD upgrade today as well, I started the process at 5:30 PM and finished at 6:15 PM with no issues at all, now I'm going to install my software, hope everything goes fine :approve:
