Well just because some DELL telephone person said something doesn't make it true (or false)...

... as soon as there is some real backing to the story i'll think about that. Until then it's just mindless speculation

Rumors, speculation, and gossip surround every new release from manufacturers, software companies, etc. Wait and see, I've got mine and I've got it installed and it is working well and I am happy. It's also available from newsgroups, etc now so the genie is out of the bottle. No serial number required, so it is available to all.

Dear God, my mother is replying on Aximsite...

;)

Reviewing posts here and elsewhere though it appears that Dell Customer Service and Support channels are responding to queries and complaints with whatever happens to pop into their (or their supervisors) heads at the time - perhaps in an effort to just get users off the line.

Some sort of unified response (indeed, any response) from Dell that would respond to the challenges of owning an Axim with WM5 or using the upgrade CD - even if that means pissing off Microsoft by laying the blame on them for the OS and ActiveSync - would do a lot to make the users feel as if Dell had a clue.

This is patently not the case at present...

Dell Halting Upgrade CD Shipments?
Posted by Jason Dunn @ 11:05 PM

We received an email from Clinton Fitch today regarding the Dell Windows Mobile 5 upgrade CDs that's rather disturbing:

"I have been on the phone with Dell for the better part of an hour regarding the upgrade for x50 and x50v owners - both the free upgrade for purchases since July 2005 and the for purchase upgrade. Apparently Dell pulled the plug on the upgrade CDs being shipped. What few did ship had serious upgrade issues and Dell decided to go back to the lab. The problem as they stated was that they did not have an ETA on when this will ship. In looking at the Dell site, they are offering the upgrade for sale but they will not be shipping it until they get whatever issues they have with the upgrade itself."

I have a call into my Dell PR contact to get an official statement, so far no response.

What do we Axim x50v owners with WM5 upgrades do NOW???? :realmad:

Wait, what option do you have if they have suspended shipping? They'll find a fix and either send the current owners a patch, or they'll issue whole new CDs when its fixed. We've been through this drill before on the X5s and now we face it again on the X5X series. I think M$ and Dell rushed it to market..again.

Dell Stops shipping WM5

I just read over at PC Thoughts that they have an uncomfirmed story that Dell has stopped shipping the WM5 upgrade. The article says that there are so many problems that they are stopping deliveries until they can correct the problems. They are still selling it but aren't giving delivery dates any more.

Any one else heard anything?

Yeah, I'm one of those having problems with my x50v after going to WM5.

It seems that my Compact Flash stops being acknowledged that it's even there after I turn off the power, wait about 1 minute and then turn it back on. I have a 2 gig Micro Drive compact flash card.

My friend and I are trying the test it with a solid state 32 meg card too just to see if it does the same thing. Either way, this all worked when using WM2003se. And, I haven't even tried calling Dell yet as I'm so upset right now.

Jason Dunn of Pocket PC Thoughts called Dell and confirmed that there is no problem with WM5 update CD. See my thread:
