I use PHM Registry Editor. One bad point though, it cannot import reg files. And under WM5, the status bar is not showing. But otherwise it is fine.
Also note that in WM5, changes to registry might not be immediate, ie. the system might wait for changes to accumulate before flushing everything to the storage permanently. If I remember correctly, pressing the power button to put the system into standby mode will also flush the changes. I had a small run-in with this the other day.
I have a small utility on my device that set up the registry the way I wanted it. Everytime after a hard reset I would run it. So the other day after loading the device with WM5, I ran my utility and soft reset. Guess what? The registry changes were never made.

Hi! Asukal is here!
Thanks for your reffering to my site
i am Asukal from
http://asukal.seesaa.net.
i will explain some.(those cabs are still adjusting)
@http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/LetsJapanNo5x.cab
this was included
1:wince.nls from japanese emulator which can be support japanese encoding.
2;MSGtothic font also from emulator
3;font rehgistry
4; exe file to enable this wince.nls.
this cab install wince.nls into TEMP files, not windows file.
exe files can make effect the wince.nls in the temp folder
@http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/echinaNo5x.cab
1:wince.nls i made bymyself with Platform Builder which can be support the encodings
of Japanese / Chinese / Korean / Thailand.
2;mUnifontM.ttf which has the both of Chinese and japanes chalactor.
3:font rehgistry
4; exe file to enable this wince.nls.
other function is same as lets japanNo5x
those can be effect on the WM5 devices.
But i am afraid this instruction is not enough, so pls do it as your own risk!

Finally, Asukal is here! We have to thank you for all the hard work you do in localization. I don't really need full localization, but the result that you show on your website is really amazing!

I dont have Axim on my hand, bt on the Universal and Himlaya of HTC. to effect the changes of Registry, you must use the SOft reset utility such like a here http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/PowerToys/
Or onother way to effect soft reset, once you turn off device after changed registry, the turn on again, then make a soft reset with useing stylus. this can be also effect.
But i am not sure on the Axim!

thanks and glad to know we are not alone to work for this!
Of course you can modify my cabs as you need!
Simply localization,
Put the wince.nls file which you want to use onto Temp folder,
Put the usemynls.exe or short cut of this from my cab onto Startup
then inmport following registry to work usemynls.exe(this was hacked from Application of CE Star, they also hacked my wince.nls. thats even, right?)
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mobem\CE-Star]
"MyNLS"="\\Temp\\wince.nls"
The font registry can be your favorite styles.
enjoy!

Let me answer this. In Platform Builder, you can find some samples for handwriting recognition for Japanese, Chinese, Korean. A user from FirstLoox (Bagoj), modified the Japanese samples so that it can display correctly on VGA device. He compiled 4 input systems:
1. Character Autocomplete.
2. Bushu-kensaku, search by radical
3. Soukakusu-kensaku, search by stroke
4. Multibox
More information on MSDN. So what this thread is about is really using that sample IME system he compiled on WM5 device. Btw, he used Platform Builder for WinCE .NET (4).

Ok so I'm sure this is me being an idiot, but it seems that when I import a reg file anything with an @ in front
isn't importing.
ie.
@="\\windows\\multibox.dll,1"
What should be here?

Ok I'm making some decent head way on this. Everything looks good but... stroke list and multibox will not place what is writen or selected. Stroke list will come up with a list but it will not enter in word. Any ideas?

id just like to say a big THANKS to asukal and gwinter.
you have both done wonderful work.i thought it would be months before i finally got japanese display and input on my axim after wm5!
i think someone should put to geather a package for the display and IME to make it easier for those new to this.
note - i have found that quite a few symbols dont show up that did in wm2003se even tho i am using the same font
quite strange,
i really do like the mUniFontM but i cudnt get the input to work with it.so im back to using good old msgothic. :approve:

Many thanks to Asukal and gwinter! I'm still on WM2003SE and all these tools work great, but when I make the switch to WM5, this thread will be of great help.
