WM5 Features
Hi,
For those who had upgraded to WM5, do you see the so-called persistence storage working? Is your data intact after a hard-reset? Does the free memory increases?
So far, dun seems to see pple comment on that.
Thanks.

Meaning you got more memory to run other programs/store data.
Out of 64M ram, how much is still available?

64MB ROM is used for the OS and program execution.
the other RAM is used for storage, so it should remain the same, if not--a little smaller on WM5.

I'm not sure what PDA you've been using...
The x50 and x51 have 64 mb of RAM which was used for both execution and program storage under 2003se. Under WM5 it is only used for execution.
I'm using an x51v and i have a total of 49.47mb out of which 30.42mb is free.

That's what I said. I mean...well maybe I got RAM and ROM mixed up, but I said the same general thing.

After re-reading your post it makes some sense now. I think the OS is stored in the ROM now though, unlike on the 2003se.

On my X50v I have 64MB SDRAM and 128MB Flash ROM.
WM5 shows (Total) Storage (Flash) ~90Mb and Program (RAM) ~50Mb.
Of what remains I guess that breaks down to WM5 needing about 40Mb of flash to store the ROM image and ~15Mb RAM to run the OS kernel (or something?).
Stephen.

No. Only ~30MB RAM free.

Which means that the RAM wont get increase because the OS is now in ROM. And you will lose VGA, seems like no point upgrading to WM5 from A05 ROM.
Very funny in fact, having a VGA capable device and VGA capable OS, but cannot use VGA. Very logical.

I don't get what you mean about the VGA.

Well, bought a VGA device X50v, WM5 can run VGA (on some device). But X50v and WM5 had no native VGA software support. Felt cheated.

Don't worry. I'm sure there will be VGA sofware released later. Btw, The zoom feature in WM5 quite good. Can increase viewing area.

No, No and No!
I made the big mistake to upgrade. I was very disappointed. persistence storage is not working, there is no way to truely turn off the device like the "Full Power Off" function on x51v. everything is gone after a hard reset just like in wm2003. I think WM5 reformat the ROM after a hard reset, thus all your data and programs are gone. there is only 28-29MB RAM free after a hard reset, on wm2003 I have close to 42MB free. not to mention performace is very sluggish. everything runs faster in wm2003.
