Connecting USB touchscreen

I am to buy an X51V and the first reason is its VGA out feature.
I want to plug an external TFT at home but also in my car. I am thinking about an in-dash 1-din VGA TFT and most of them cames with touchscreen.
Is there any chance to put touchscreen to work with X51V?
I know X51V does not have USB Host and there is a CF interface from RATOC, I found lot of information related to mass storage devices, but nothing about input devices.
Does anyone experienced connecting USB input devices?
Is it suppose to have addition driver problems if trying with RATOC?
Could it work some sort of intermedite conversion, like BT?

I doubt you can do that because you would need a Windows CE Touchscreen driver on top of USB ports. If you can, I'd love to do it too. Right now I have a VGA in-dash screen in my truck. I connect that to my X50v and use a Bluetooth mouse to control it. Works great.

Question

At least I can hear 50% of my idea works! :approve:
What resolution do you use? Does it fit fullscreen?

Going back to touchscreen, I think there should not be much difference between connecting a touch and an USB mouse.
Does anyone put to work an USB mouse?
Also, I think USB can easily be converted to serial:
Does anyone put to work a serial mouse?
Finally, is there any devide to convert USB->BT?

It seems it could be touchscreen drivers overthere...

Please, CF-RATOC owners: have you tryed to use any USB mouse, touch or any other sort of input device?

That's exactly what they are, and they're the generic touchscreen drivers that most people at mp3car.com use for their carputers, no matter what brand of touchscreen they're using.

Hey afarre, you might want to take a look at this other thread here.

I, like you, would really like to be able to utilize my in-dash touchscreen. I currently use my Axim as my carputer, but I have to contol it via the axim's touch screen, and that sucks.

Thanks for the link, it is very interesting but I finally could not figure out if someone successed putting TS to work with the Axim.

I still think the better solution is buying the CF USB host from RATOC. But besides it is expensive (+$150.00) and besides driver problems I read a lot in the forum about compatibility problems using RATOC. I believe a good starting point is knowing for sure it works fine with a mouse or KB.

So, please, please, once again CF-RATOC owners: How does it work with a regular USB mouse or keyboard?

Other solution would be turnning TS to BT. In you link someone shows a converter for an GPS-USB, I also found something for printers, but nothing about "general USB devide", or mouse/TS.

Does anybody know about a general converter for any USB devide to BT?

Aximsitesoftwareicon Car PPC Software

I think that afarre made an outstanding job developing all the hardware that we needed for a carputer based on a PPC.

What I like to know is if somebody is working on specific software for a Front End for a PDA that could integrate Multimedia, GPS, etc.

Thanks in advance.

So, do I. That is a good idea.
Perhaps we should start a new thread to let people say what they would expect from a "PDA to CAR" application.
Also, it could give us an idea of how many people is using Axim as a carputer.

From my point of view App should provide user interface to access Nav (GPS), video, audio and BT dialing applications. It must be able to allow playing all of them at a time and switching among them (ie: using Nav while playing music). Dialing should be a one (maximum two) tap actions, with a front end similar to photo dialer applications.

I think you are right. We should start asking people what they want.

This thread is old, all problem were solved.
Now I have an Ratoc CF USB host and I can say it works with:
keyboards
mice
USB touchscreen
USB memory stick
UBD HD
and all at a time using an USB HUB.

See my threads and videos at:

BTW, the device you show need to be connected to an USB host, witch does not came with Axim and provides BT wictch already cames with Axim.
