Block Recognizer Problems

I am having problems with the Block Recognizer entry method for my x51v. It seems like even if I input the charachter the right way, the Axim would recognize it as a backspace, or sometimes, it would go into symbol mode (the one you enter by starting with a dot) even if I did not enter a dot first. Is it just me or is this a hardware defect? The screen seems a lot more sensitive than my Clie or my Genio. FYI, I am using the Boxwave screen protector, would that affect it?
