All that worry for nothing!!!

I've been sitting in front of my computer reading the horror stories on this forum about the WM-5 upgrade since last Monday when my upgrade CD's arrived. I was afraid to touch them let alone install on my precious Axim X50v. Well I decided to take the plunge this morning. Come hell or high water I was going to get the job done. Be done with it.

Man, what a no-brainer. The install went smooooth as silk. No problems at all. My unit is running better than it did before, the processor is set to auto and is running at 624 MHz, more memory (90.49 + 49.29 MB), no speed loss with both memory cards installed, program install as fast as ever, most of my old programs installed, Active Sync 4.0 is running great, etc., etc., etc. The upgrade is well worth the effort...good job Dell/Microsoft.

My advice for those still waiting to install...DO IT NOW. And, be sure to read and follow the instructions carefully.

Ya just wait until your battery dies for no reason and you get memory corruption errors

I'm glad the upgrade is working well for you, Congrats.

I fail to see however, how 90.49 + 49.29 MB is "more memory" than the x50v with wm2k3se installed, which has 91.43 + 61.75.

From what I've read, as soon as you boot you're also losing another 14ish (comparable to 2k3) so that doesn't leave as much program memory as pre wm5 x50s. This remains one of my major gripes with wm5.

I've been seeing reports that claim ~30MB free RAM with WM5 installed. Then I see people saying they're losing a "ton" of RAM. For me, that would be a lateral move. I don't install anything to main memory, but I still only find myself with only 30MB free at the most...usually hovering around 20MB.

Install went "ok" i guess. but everything syncs, EXCEPT my tasks. shit is driving me crazy, cuz thats the most important sync to me. Same thing is happening to my co-worker. Tasks i create on the PC sync INTO the PC, but tasks I create on the PC won't sync OUT to the PPC.

:exc: This is an old thread, and EVERYTHING has changed since it was posted. The dude that started it has totally changed his tune and is now asking Dell for a refund.
