WM5 and Windows finds new hardware?

New user here, but have been an Axim user for a few monthes now. I have the x50v which I got free from Dell with a large computer purchase.

Anyway, I ordered the WM5 and received it couple days ago now. Installed it without a problem outside my battery needing to be charged before I could. I think the only thing I screwed up on was when it told me to hard reset the first time, I think I soft resetted as I didn't remember the proper procedure. I ended up pulling out the battery for 30 seconds. Second time it wanted a hard reset, looked it up on the net and found it.

Anyway, has been running without a problem since except :) when I try to sync it, first time I plug it in, Windows XP says it found new hardware "Dell Axim x50v" and is looking for a driver? I searched the CD and couldn't find one (or did I miss it)? Anyway, syncing on my home computer and it searches for the hardware driver again. Is the driver on the CD or can it be downloaded somewhere? My CD is at work, and prefer not having to drive into work for it as I want to reset up x50v.

Also, not sure if anybody else noticed, but Dell now has a download to revert back to 2003SE on their site. First I wanted to test some apps and resync before I give up on WM5 as I haven't had problems yet.

Thanks,

Corey

There is no specific driver for the PPC but you need to use ActiveSync 4.x along with the new operating system. Did you upgrade ActiveSync on the PC?

There are also some problems with ActiveSync 4 working with certain firewall software. Look at M$ ActiveSync 4.0 USB Connection Troubleshooting Guide

The downgrade information has been posted previously.

Thanks for the post. Does Microsoft's site have Activesync 4? I only saw reference to 3.8.

Corey

Update: I found Activesync 4 on msdn.microsoft.com.
