My friend's ipaq 1950 is faster than my x50v wm5.
My friend's ipaq 1950 is faster than my x50v wm5.
We just a kind of tested both ppc. We use word, notes...etc and we found out 1950 respons faster than my x50v wm5.
1950 WM5 Samsung cpu 300MHz
x50v WM5 Intel cup I set it as max. perfprmance 624MHz.
I think dell can do a better job to improve the performance on x50v which is WM5 updated.
Is it possible VGA cause it slow? Anyone get a x50 which is not VGA?

VGA is almost definitely a major part of the "problem." A buddy of mine at work has an X3i, and he runs apps without issue that run so slow on my X50v (WM2003SE) as to be unusable.

Hey alanlau, not that there's anything wrong with your method of testing, there's benchmark programs (don't know the names of them of the top of my head) that test and benchmark the PPC's more indepth and thuroughly i'll show you more specifics on everything cpu/graphics/memory. But i do agree my friends x30 draws 2d menu's faster then my x50v, but when i load up a divx or morph gear he gets left in the dust.
I'm sure their working on a fix as we speak!

The "fix" is to run VGA aware software, not QVGA software. QVGA software requires double-pixelling to fil in the screen, which significantly slows down the screen update, making it look slow and unresponsive. VGA updated apps are blindingly faster. When I first got the X50v my Laridian Bible Reader refreshed teh screen slow enough that you could see it painting from top to bottom. When I got the updated version, the screen updates with no perceptible delay at all.

I think its just an operating system issue, and nothing to do with the VGA screen (x50v has 16mb video ram for that :approve: )
I remember when the beta for XP sp2 came out, my computer slowed to a crawl. With everything i've read, wm5 seems like beta software which will improve with future patches.

I think dell should provide a WM5 update which is designed for x50v.
I think hp did a better job on WM5 than dell, maybe that's why hx4700 wm5 update is delay to Spring 2006.

My experience is that the x50v is super slow as well, with vga aware apps like spb and wisbar 2. It's the main thing that makes me want to go back to my treo 650, but the apps on the ppc are more mature and probably have overtaken palm now which I see as a dead os.
