i know it isn't about the axim, but when i installed the active synth it crashed my computer, i don't have the manual and the dell representatives are clueless.

i thought it was F12, but i was wrong. can anyone give me a hand?

What's a complete reboot? A warm reboot is to either press ctrl-alt-del or to press the reset button. A cold reboot is to turn the computer off and on. If you mean safe mode so you can start the machine without loading any of the crap you loaded, then you press F10 a few times at bootup to get a menu. I think people are having more problems with the new activesync than wm5. That is why I don't use it at all.

i'll try F8.

btw, a complete reboot is when you delete the C: drive completely and reinstall the default apps and OS for the computer

If it is a new Dell Pc, when you reboot press and hold Ctrl and F11. That will start the reload process from the hidden partition...

????? Good question, I have never seen active sync do anything like that before.

Why not before attempting to reformat the system you don't try with F8 to boot on safe mode and then using the system restore point to let's say a week ago?

As an alternative, you could try a Repair installation. This will leave all of your data and programs intact, though some apps may no longer work. Dell should have given you an xp install disk (I think they're extra now but back in 04 they were included)

You can boot from the disk and go throught the xp install process as usual, but when it gets to the install option to repair the existing installation. Don't use the recovery console (I think that's it's name)

If you need more specific info just ask, I'm on the axim at the moment so I can't run the disk to remember exactly where the option to repair becomes available.
