anyone care to share some real life batt life info about their x51v/x50v?
the recent wm5 horror stories & personal experience made me searched the net for some reviews by various people regarding the x51v & wm5. in particular i was look @ the info about battery life. i found that batt life in x51v with 1100mAh batt, according to some reviewers, ranged from 3h+ to 13h+ (various different processor speeds, wifi/bt, screen on/off/brightness etc)
My personal experience with my x50v on wm5 is horrible & with dimmest light, wifi/bt on & speed @ auto I got no more than 1h30mins. I don't have a x51v for comparison, & i m sure x50v on wm2k3se at the above mentioned setting lasted approx 2h.
for interest sake, would anyone like to share the battery lives that they experienced with wm5? if we all made our settings to wifi/bt on with no powersave features, screen max brightness, max cpu speed, i m sure it won't take >2h of your time.

I did each test once and I used SPB Benchmark to do it so I would not claim this to be very scientific.
Initially I was very upset with my battery life after reading some reviews so I bought a bigger battery. Then I carefully analysed the battery life of my previous PDA (h4150)which also had 1100MaH battery. That device would also last about 2.5 hours with WiFi. So I think the performance I'm seeing is normal. I'm still in two minds about the performance of my new 1800MaH battery.
I took my x50v with me to a conference last month (running wm2k3-se). I found that if I kept the backlight at minimum, and only turned on wi-fi at the hourly breaks to check mail and news, I finished each day (9 hours) with 15-20% battery remaining. I have the basic 1100mAh battery. I used the notes app to jot down items throughout each session. Bluetooth seems to be the bigggest drainer, followed by wi-fi. Keep them off when you don't need them and you will see a big difference. Also, if you are in an area with plenty of light, you can quickly turn off the back-light by holding the power button.
even with WM5, i would say the battery life sucks comparable to my previous hp 4150 with 1000mAh battery. The other annoying thing is that my x51v have to soft reset every time i change battery.
I am testing it right now with everything on...Max usage on 1100 battery.
I am doing this for different purposes. I'd like to know what happens to my X50/WM5 after it runs out of power.
1-Would that know how to detect a low power condition then destages the whole environment (RAM contents + Registry, etc..) back to Built in Storage before it dies, so when the power s back, I will find my X50v as same as before.
2-Or (I hope it is not true..), it will just perform a hard-reset but my PIM will survive but all my 3rd party program settings + Today Plugins, etc..will be gone...
I just experienced the case#2 after a sudden hard-reset. I had to restore from a previous backup to actually get everything back (as I did with WM2003SE before)

Oleg
Hmm... quite disapointing, I thought the battery life increase will be much more dramatic...
btw: Great avatar, Oleg!

I'e had a hard reset since upgrading to WM5 as well as the battery completely draining (my fault - I forgot to turn off the WiFi). In the first case it rebooted to a blue WM5 screen and then after less than a minute restarted with all my data and programs intact. In the second case after I replaced the battery I got a hard reset and again all the data and applications were intact. Interestingly the backup battery had drained down to 20%. I wonder what would have happened on a x51v without the backup battery?

when my batt hit 0%, i get a notice saying 'axim will go into sleep mode in 10s'. which it did. swapped over another battery and turned it on. everything is intact. probably bcos the backup batt is there.
x50v with WM2005 and Mugen 1800 mAh battery with WiFi on (powersave mode disabled) brightness set to one notch above the half way mark. 2 hours usage and battery was down to 40%.
x51v on max bright, auto proc(runs round 480mhz) with WiFi just around 2hrs this is constant web surfing and AIM. same setup with a lowered brightness about 2.5-hrs(i never run it down to dead, out of class by then)
