A guy over at xda-developers.com has worked out why the ripped 96dpi dlls weren't loading up when running in true VGA mode. It was because they weren't signed. Pop on over to xda-developers.com when you get a chance (and the site is back up) and thank the guy for his time. The thread is in the HTC Universal section.
Download this file: http://www.rilot.co.uk/VGA/VGA.zip
Copy the stuff in "Windows folder files" to your Windows folder.
Run the cab file which will allow deveoper signed dlls to be loaded by the os.
Run OzVGA or edit the registry to go to real VGA mode.
Be very happy.
I haven't tested this on an X51v but it works fine on my HTC Universal which is running the same OS and was designed by the same company. I have both the iMate JASJAR and the O2 Exec and it works like a charm on both.

Do you have a copy of these dlls unsigned?

I've got QVGA DLLs from X50 Mid, combined with those from K-Jam and got better result. Try this, what I see, there is only few missing icons (Modem Link, Key lock on Today) and the Backlight setting is not showing correctly.
In "win" folder are files to copy to \\windows.
Before applying disable Security Checks as CTitanic has mentioned in his blog or use included CAB file...
I will work the get it done 100%. :approve:

1. Unpacked the contents of VGA.ZIP to a single directory. This gives me a total of 21 files.
2. Plug-in ActiveSynch and attempt to copy these 21 files to a temporary location on the x51v. It fails on copying instmsgrresources.96.dll and pmsnresources.96.dll but as these two are not part the original VgaRes.Zip I decide to push on.
3. I remove the PDA from the cradle and using the File Explorer on the PDA, copy all 19 files to the \Windows folder.
4. Then I create a shortcut to OzVGA.exe and place that in the Start Menu.
5. I run OzVGA and make no setting changes, just click the OzVGA! button.
6. The PDA resets and just sits dumbly at the 'Dell' splash screen. No amount of soft resets do anything, so a Hard Reset is required and I'm back to square one.
What am I doing wrong? If I run OzVGA without any dlls copied it works but has icon issues. Am I meant to be running the .cab file or something? Any help would be appreciated, even the 'no icons' view of True VGA has me desperate to get this working :)
Thanks!

Same here. Hard Reset is not working.... It still sits at th dell screen with th progress bar at 100%. Is it dead? Thanks.

I got 2 questions for you...
1. What files are diferent compared to the old file?
2. how did you extract those files?

Can anyone confirm if X51v is working in true VGA mode with this hack?

1. There is lot's of new files, few of them are little different... As said, it works. If you want to see some picture, tell me and I will post image...
2. I don't know , I wrote to my friend (he has X50) if he would be able to download those QVGA files from his device and after while I got an e-mail with .zip file containing those needed files.
BTW Does it really matter?

Works fine on my x51v. I put my SD card in the PC, coppied the files over then put it in the axim to finish the job. Though, its not ready for prime time.
The problems I have are:
Some text is all over the place in system tools such as where you can select processor speed.
Keyboard, scroll, and some icons ("x") are extremely difficult to use due to their small size.
Text can be difficult to read even using largest font size.
Wallpapers no longer fit the screen. Though you can download larger pictures to overcome this.
Ill play around with it for the next few days but I forsee a hard reset in my near future to go back.

Hi, Does this Version of Real VGA apply to other PDAs (like JASJAR by iMate) or just the Axim?
Thanks

c00lk1d: In my .zip file is 2 times more files then that original .zip file. ;) Anyway, I still don't understand your worries...
Despat: AFAIK it is working on JasJar, but my friend has it and unfortunatelly i.e. the Phone app is screwed up.

I compared the files in your ZIP file with one in windows folder. There was some extra *.96.* files and one extra *.192.* file.
96 Files are Stylushead.96.gif and welcomehead.96.gif. And 192 file is pptres.dll.
This difference of files may cause the missing icons. (I guess.)
If you could find out how your friend copy these files, I could try to make *.96.* files from *.192.* files.

Guys, could somebody tell me where I can find a copy of these dlls but no signed at all. The SE_VGA guy is working in something that will allow to use the dlls without having to install the developers certificates.

Yeah!! I love these forums!! I have applied the hack and am back to using VGA on my WM5 x50v!
Thanks a ton!
BTW, I might be dreaming this but it REALLY seems like it runs faster in VGA than in QVGA. Could that be possible?
