Alright, I tried it all again just to make sure.

I set a static-IP just as you described to get rid of the docking "Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP...enter an IP address in Network Settings." problem, but it stops activesync and my whole comp from seeing my x51v.

When I change the NDIS Host settings back to the original "use server assigned IP address" I can sync again, but I get the error. My question is:

are there other steps you took to fix your problem? I feel I've read pretty thoroughly through these posts, but it's still here and still hates me.

Sorry I misunderstood you.

Okay, you're not going to much like it, but... can you get all the data off of your axim and onto your CF or SD card? I think you've hit the wall, and it's time to do a hard reset.

You do this by pressing and holding the front-side power button and simultaneously pressing and holding the reset button on the back. It will restore to original settings and wipes all data from the internal flash memory.

Well, I'd be happy to keep helping you troubleshooting, but you've spent a lot of time on this, and I feel bad for you wasting more tweaking all kinds of settings....

hehehe, hard reset, yep, I've done it before. However, I think when the new ROM comes out in 2050, we'll all have to perform a hard-reset to install it, so I'll just wait till then. What an annoying lil bugger though.

Thanks for the help and effort

cheers

I had this same problem and did this:

For Remote-NDIS Host
Use specific IP address
IP address: 169.254.2.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 169.254.2.2

No "Unable to obtain.." message
and no problem with ActiveSync 4.1

I see... Well you could try this...

1. Set up your Axim so you can get it to sucessfully sync with your computer.

2. Put it in its cradle and sync it up.

3. In XP go to Start->Run and type 'cmd' and hit enter.

4. In the command window type 'ipconfig /all' and hit enter.

5. You should see a new network adapter called 'Windows Mobile-based Device.'

6. If you do have that adapter check what IP address your computer is assigned. Is it 169.154.2.2? If it isn't, write down the DHCP server IP address listed with it.

7. Undock your PDA and change the IP address back to a static address with the DHCP server IP you wrote down in step 6. Be sure to set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and leave the default gateway part empty.

8. Redock and cross your fingers.

btw, are you running any firewall software on the machine you are trying to dock with?

I had the same problem on my x51v. was playing around with the network settings. set it all to Automatic and did write down the IP setting I changed. All of a sudden it would sync any more.

I went to my firewall settings in XP (to see if any ports were being blocked) and it would not let me in (saying the service was not started). I restared my XP computer and it let me in to the firewall settings (all looked good). I then plugged my PDA back in (with all network settings set to Automatic not Static IP) and the sync was working again.

For some reason the PDA come up with "unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings." after a little while.

I then went back into Remote-NDIS and entered 169.254.2.1 and 255.255.255.0 (left the gateway blank), and everything seems to be working again with out any message.

It looks like windows on my machine got upset and would not start the DCHP server and some other service that was stopping the firewall from working. Once I resent the computer (and it would let me view the windows firewall settings) and put a static IP address in the PDA all was working well again.

Hope this helps. I was able to find this out and fix my PDA without a hard reset thanks to this thread.
