No... keyboards and monitors were a big improvement over punchcards. Just drop a stack of 100 punchcards and it was "easy" to see that.

But with your mentality one would have thought that Microsoft's COM object model was the way to go... even though it was harder to program to and in the end it did not live up to the hype that MSFT gave it (basing it on RPC was dumb, dumb, dumb). So what happened? COM really did not catch on like MSFT wanted and now we have .NET. COM still exists but .NET is easier and more integrated with the programming languages.

So... because people did not "drink the koolaid" and jump on the COM bandwagon MSFT made a better object model in .NET.

So you can say my rejection of WM 5.0 in its current state is a dumbassed attitude but quite frankly I am going to think the same of yours. The difference is I think I might have a little bit more experience in seeing what is crap and what is not out of Redmond than you do...

Thanks for this thread Solsie.. still waiting for my disk, but when it comes this will be invaluable information.

To those who don't like wm5. That's OK... but could you discuss that in one of the many threads for that instead of here. Thanks

i installed wm5, completely without a hitch. the only problem i have after it was done is with MS reader, that isnt updated yet, the left and right arrows are numbers instead of arrows..

OOOOH NOOOE'S!!!!! whatever shall I do?

PS my ax is SO much faster now. there was always a delay doing things, it is now significantly diminished.

to the punchcard guy- i bet the neanderthals were in the same boat you're in now, guess how that turned out? haha

I certainly disagree on that. I'm liking WM5 quite a lot, but I believe that in order to make an educated decision you should be able to see both sides of the coin.

I agree that users biased against a product are of no help, but users that dislike a product due to their use habits or needs tend to offer real help on whether to go for or against a product

No.. you have me mistaken. Discuss it all you like. I'll discuss it with you if you want. Just not is this thread as that would be Hijacking it. This threads purpose is practical help for x50v users who want to stay with it. Its purpose isn't discussing the pros and cons of WM5, who is/isn't to blame etc. Discussing the whys and wherefores should be done in any of the many other wm5 threads.

Heart

Thanks so much for your effort.

Here is the fact for a you Aximers out there.
Regarding WM5/X50v
It runs MUCH MORE Smoother, after applying all tweaks above.

Lets turn this thread into more constructive to the WM5 upgrade..

Let's all explore more tweaks/optimizations/tricks to improve the experience of X50V/WM5

I am thinking, All the Strip out Wireless Client/Home.exe/ etc..
eventually we will have more memory, since some tweaks require multi mega bytes of Cache memory.

Let's keep this rolling guys. with the the new VGA hack and some speed optimization.

We can hack WM5/X50v into a more usable state.

Thanks for yo all

Kudos

Solsie,

Excellent post. This is what makes this the best PDA site/forum site. You can get answers and solutions - not just complaints and groans. I don't care how many people hate Dell or M$ or anyone else. I just want to know how to get my PDA humming along. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing what you found. :approve: :approve: :approve:

Solsie, I'm with you bro. WM5 is here to stay for me.

I believe that people forget or have gotten use to all of the headaches that Pocket PC 2003se and Dell ROMS A02, A03, A04 etc have given them. Soon there will be a ROM A02 that will probably clean-up most of the little headaches but for now, your list sure addresses some of the biggest complaints.

I personally hate going back and reading a post or some advice that I have given later to see all of the "You're lying" or "You work for MS" or whatever negative and unconstructive thing people say. I know people have an opinion but wouldn't it be more constructive to actually consider what a person is saying? Not just jump to "I hate you" type of answers?

Anyways, good work Solsie. :approve:
