And, thanks again for starting this wonderful
thread and putting so many of your own good tips in. While I still have a love-hate relationship with my x51v, there's more love than hate now.
Edit: I went to the Startup folder to remove it and it wasn't there. I wonder if it just wasn't included in the x51v implementations of WM5, while being included in x50v implementations? I never upgraded my x50v from WM2003SE, and it still has poutlook in its startup folder. Interesting.
As we gradually are moving to later ROM. And once we all moved off from
A01, This thread will not be as critical in the future. I am thinking to create another thread to hopefully share "one tip a day" as you can see in the beginning of the first post. What do you think?
Of course I hope other people on this forum will use this thread to share their tips as well.
Whoa!
Don't stop these tips.
But from your 'AO1' remark, I assume you have the X51v?
When will it be safe, and when will X50v owners have enough tips to make the upgrade? If I install WM2005 now, I'm afraid I'll be spending all my time getting it to work.
It is very encouraging to see you and Frank, and others working this out. Hopefully, MS & DELL can upgrade their CD to make it easy for dummies like me to upgrade their X50v or X51v.
Whoa!
Don't stop these tips.
Keep the tips coming.
I fully agree.

The only time I spend upgrading were: 1. Installing upgrade 2. Implement the tweaks listed at the 1st post :approve: and 3. reinstall programmes.
And Voila! There you are! The new and improved X50v with WM5, of which I'm extremely happy.
Tip of the day 11/25/2005
Windows Media Player 10 Playlist Editor
Windows Media Player 10 was a nice improvement so that users could play purchased music on their PocketPCs, but WMP10 itself lacks some features.
Perhaps the most annoying of these (aside from the button mapping problems) is the inability to create and save playlists on the device. Playlist Editor was designed to import your files into a playlist format that WMP10 can play: ASX. Version 1.2 adds the ability to load and save M3U and PLS playlists as well.
Now you can use "Import" function to create a playlist from a whole directory as well as single songs.
BTW, in your My Music folder, if you organize as below:
\My Music\Artist Name\Album name\song, song,...
You can go to Amazon.com, find the album, right mouse click on the album cover, save it as picture and name it Folder.jpg, drop it in the music folder at same level as your song. Then WMP10 will show your album cover when playing... See below screenshot.

I remember, after I installed PocketInformant on WM5, the fact that Poutlook.lnk was in \Windows\startup. PI is launched after softreset and it takes longer time.

A puzzle to me. I also have PI on my x51v and on my x50v, but no poutlook in the startup folder on the x51v. And, PI has never started for me on startup, even on my WM2003SE x50v, which does have poutlook in the startup folder. Puzzling.
Hi folks, I installed the WM5 that Dell sent me and I feel betrayed:
I don´t see any difference in Excel or pocket Word, no tables, no graphs, nothing!!
The Power Point viewer doesn´t appear anywhere!!
The Acrobat for PPC stopped working and I tried to download another version and i´t doesn´t work either!!

As you know there is no way to tell ActiveSync how often to sync. After I installed the latest Avantgo client, I notice ActiveSync tries to sync very frequently (every few minutes) and the Axim responses painfully slowly while synch'ing. Look at ActiveSync window, Avantgo is always the longest item to sync...
So I went out to www.Avantgo.com and find out, that I have to setup the sync interval rigth at their Web site. Just log in to your account, select manage channels and you can click on each to change the interval (per channel). So it is recommended to scatter the interval so all the channels will not be sync'ed at the same time. The default is "sync at the same time and very frequently". This really helped ActiveSync to behave correctly. No performance whie on cradle.
BTW, since Avantgo now supports WM5 (still in Beta) and RSS. I decided to subcribe ($20/year) so I can download whole bunch of RSS news at high picture resolution,...It's great. Don't forget to unzip and drop the attached mui file in Avantgo directory to make Avantgo "VGA aware"!
