WM5 Update Installs WM2003?

Please help me: every time that I use my upgrade CD to install WM5 on my axim x50v, it formats my PDA and only reinstalls Windows Mobile 2003. What does that mean?

It needs two steps. Read the screen closely. Do not just click on "buttons"

I've followed the directions about three times now. The system does the check, tells me that I have windows mobile 2003 and that it is upgrading to WM5. The Axim goes through it's motions like I installed an ao update, but when I turn the system on it looks like it just did a hard reset.

Try the install again, and write down everything you see on the screen of the Axim during the process. If you have that info, someone may be able to tell you whats going on.

I think your Axim is failing the upgrade just prior to the ROM format. That would account for the hard reset and retaining the 2003 OS.

well, looks like I can't do it anymore. For some reason, activsync doesn't recognize the pda anymore. I've reinstalled everything and nothing seems to work. Wow, what a great update.

Thanks for the help anyway gang; I think that they only thing I can do now is call Dell because my PDA just isn't responding now.

The upgrade will do TWO hard resets..

First, it will ensure that your axim has WM2003SE.
After the hard reset, do not touch your axim. The install will continue and load WM5 ROM and ask you do a second hard reset.

At this point, look back on your PC screen, you see 2 buttons, click "Continue". This time it will transfer WM5 image over, and do WM5 installation

I don't mean to sound partonizing, but have you actually read in detail the on screen instructions? The procedure is a bit odd. The first "update" will only take about a minute and then you have to do a hard reset. Then per the on screen instructions, you have to do another "update" which will take a good 15 minutes or so. Then after a hard reset, per the on screen instructions, the flash memory has to be formatted which will take another 10 minutes or so.

I'm quite guilty of not reading the instructions and trying to do it myself. But this time, take your time.

If you have read them in detail, forgive my condesention.
