A tip or hint for wm5 to boost up *some* speed...

Following my own observations a while ago, I found out that, if you install most applications on the device (ROM) for your x50/x51s (WM5 of course) it's VERY SLOW.

Two days ago I purchased a 2 GB Sandisk Ultra II CF Card (at a very lovely price ) and tried to install all the programs into it. The device is definitely much snappier when I launch programs or run the start menu and going into the program list (where it usually lags like all hell broke loose :hide: )

I don't know exactly how WM5 manages ROM applications (I believe it makes a copy of the program into the ram and then execute it) but by installing most programs on CF card (perhaps read speed is significantly faster?) everything runs SO MUCH faster. :approve:

You can try this out for yourself. Try and install programs on the CF/SD card instead of your internal memory (ROM) and see if the speed improves. :approve:

Logic, it was the same with WM2003se. the rom memory of the X50v is VERY slow.

If you want a real pain, try to install Netfront in the ROM.. it's terrible :D

Why have so much ROM then?

What should go to ROM and what should go to CF/SD? I've been dumping most of my programs into ROM thinking I will have it regardless of what storage cards I am currently using. If I am using my SD card that is dedicated to music, I can still use Pocket Infornmant for example.

Now I'm more confused.

the *designed* way of wm5 is to install everything to rom. in fact your methods are completely logical and right - but for people that can't stand the slowness of installed programs on rom (which drags the system VERY SLOW) decided to install everthing in cf or sd (they are rated much faster than the rom built in the unit)

... honestly, i left my rom as clear as possible, using none of it at all....

Same here.. Ever since i got my Axim, i've been trying to figure out what should go where. Right now i have most programs installed on Rom, and a couple in Ram. Is there an easy way to get all my apps from the rom onto my CF card without uninstalling/re-installing everything?

It does make the rom seem kinda useless though..

I install my stuff in rom too...
I don't think the diference is huge for small programs...
Although minimo also seems a bit faster on a SD than in rom.
