I havent read about any problems with the x50v as I have read with the x51v. I think most of the problems with the x51v are due to people instlling uncompatible third party software.
I would recomend the x50v for these reasons:
1. You should be able to score a good deal on one, now that the the x51v is out.
2. Windows mobile 5 has too many bugs and software compatibility issues, I never recommend jumping onto a brand new microsoft OS.
3. With the x50v you have the option to upgrade to windows mobile 5 later, and if you dont like it you can easily go back to 2003 SE. With the x51v your stuck with mobile 5.
The extra 128 MB of ROM is nice, but with the two 1 GB SD Cards I have and a 4 GB Microdrive. Its of little concern to me.
You should be able to score a good deal on one, now that the the x51v is out.
Dell doesn't list, or sell, the X50's anymore on their website.
However, Dell does have a number of refurbished X50v's on
their outlet. Bought two on Dell outlet $70.00 discount just
a couple of weeks ago. Nice. :) $320 (each) + Tax + $2 (shipping)(each).
The outlet refurbished Axims are great deals. They're movin' fast.
One [1] year exchange warranty.
Cradle
CD
Manual
Cables
You wouldn't know the Ax was referbuished unless you removed
the battery cover and saw the little sticker. :approve:
Tankman has a point that Dell only sell referbuished x50v's. I would rather get a new one instead of a referbuished one. So I guess the x51v is the way to go. One last question, (I'm a Axim noob) when you go to the dell direct store (http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...1V624_D2&s=dhs) do you get the cradle and the software cd and active sync ect. ect. with it. :bang:

ogopogo - what do you mean there is no backup battery for the x51? I thought it had a battery that kept settings or such for a half hour if the battery was switched out?

that's the backup battery, which does not exist in x51

Ships complete. All the "stuff", cradle, cables, CD, manual,
slip "cover" case (I hate that case), 1 year exchange warranty.
For $320 today, X50v is a great deal from Dell's outlet.
I've said before, "Impossible to tell refurb' vs new."
X51 has no built-in backup battery. That's what you get for cutting edge technology, a nerfed PPC! Looks like that upgraded feature perty much hosed X51's from using 2003 SE.
X50's more versatile. they can use Mobile 5, and revert back to 2003 SE. Looks like the cutting edge is cutting itself.
My Axim is not neutered!
