With persistant storage in WM5, I wasn't sure where the actual ROM finished and the rest of the data started. The dump file is a full 128MB. I think ctitanic is kindly looking into this.

Hi ctitanic,
Please check PM.
Hi obvious,
Yes, ctitanic will start looking into this sometime after this post. Interesting point about persistent storage. Was the Axim from which the ROM was dumped clean (like right after a hard reset)? Or did it have programs installed and data?
Thanks for the help,
Alan

It has programs/data. I'll make another dump after a hard reset.

Thanks, let me know when I can re-downloaded it, ok?
ctitanic, you might want to wait for this new ROM for editing purposes. I will let you know when it's ready, ok?

Alan has the ball ;)
BTW, do we have a volunteer (X50v) to dump a WM2003 ROM after a hard reset? It might help with working out where persistant storage starts in the WM5 version.

if dell told you the files that were needed (nb0 and crc) then why couldn;t they just give you the files?
is this just dell being dell?
i;ve not been able to get anywhere with dell about my dead x50v cos they don;t believe that i own one so keep us all upto date on this pioneering work. (afaik no one has ever managed to flash an x50 from SD before)

You'd think so wouldn't you? It's about 1 step forwards and 2 steps back a lot of the time. The vast majority of the time, I get far more and better informed help here at aximsite than I can get from Dell and that's even when going through their escalations dept. I've asked for the necessary files but so far it's fallen on deaf ears.
BTW, we'll hopefully need a (victim) volunteer for the first test. My axims are working fine now. They would still sync so I just cross flashed them using the 10+ method. Do you want to put your name in the hat as you've got a likely candidate?

I have an axim brick to test it on. And I'm having the same problem with ownership information so, if you find the files needed, I'd be glad to test it.

Thanks sivero. Is it an X50v? Could you see if you can enter the bootloader using the info in step 3 of post #4

i to am now completely willing to test this.
and i can confirm i have an x50v and can get into the "SD Image Update" bootloader
a little note i have just thought of...
the bootloader (for SD updating) on my x50v says its version A01.
is it possible that the A01 rom (and A00 repectivly) contains a version of the updater, but the A05 rom, for example, does not and the usb flashing method flashes around the SD updater?
also.. anyone found any programs for making crc files.. all i can find are tools to make sfvs.

Thanks narco, I dont think the version will matter.
We now have an .nb0 (thanks ctitanic!) and it's being checked. Hopefully we'll be able to get a test done today!
I've emailed someone about CRC creation software as well but dont know how long it will take to get a reply. We 'should' be able to safely test without a CRC. The worst that should happen is that the process will complain that it is missing.
