x50v WM5 can't perform Data Backup

When I tried to perform data backup, it loads for more than 5 mins (shows only 9.32Mb). However, when I click start, it shows "SD /CF card may be removed or the card is write protected."

Does anyone experience like that ??

I thought Data Backup was disabled in WM5 - Microsoft's rationale being that if the PDA now has persistent memory, nothing can get lost requiring backup. Likewise, Backup/Restore no longer exists in AS4, I understand.

Yeah, its a stupid rationale, but that's what I've heard...

Data Backup is not disabled in WM5.

I can do data backup in my X50V under WM5. I can also restore from a backup. Although both backup and restore take looooooong time, at least they works. BTW, the backup was stored onto my 1G SD card.

The data backup application doesn't make it very clear, does it also backup the registry?

Should I better downgrade to 2003SE and then again upgrade to WM5 to just for a try???

Have you tried just hard resetting to see if that solves the problem? I do not want to do that test because I have a lot of things installed and don't want to lose everything. Let us know.

Since a lot of people can backup normally and we can't, maybe we should just ask for the backup.exe file located on the Windows directory of those that have no problems. That might solve the problem without the need of downgrading and upgrading once again. So, gr123 and apmichael, could any of you please zip that and attach it for me? It must be from an Axim X50v with Windows Mobile 5, ok? Many thanks.

Alan

I've got the same problem you have: "SD card may be removed or the card is write protected.". I'm running now without a backup. When the next ROM upgrade will come, I'll have to re-install every thing. Hope that Sprite Backup come up with a WM5 version soon.

OK, here is what I found: when I go into AS Options and set calendar option to sync only the last 2 weeks of appointments, Data Backup works. As soon as I set the option to sync All of my appointments, Data Backup stops working. So I presume that there might be a problem with the quantity of data that causes Data Backup to stop working. This is absurd, but so it seems. I have read other users who say after a hard reset, Data backup works, but it stops working as soon as they finish the first Sync, which tends to confirm my theory. Can anyone having problems please test something in this direction and let us know? Thanks.

Alan
